Sensip REU
These 3 year NSF SenSIP REU and IRES sites are hosted at the ASU main campus.
This three year REU site will be hosted at the ASU main campus and will recruit nine undergraduate students per year in the summer for nine weeks. The Sensor, Signal and Information Processing (SenSIP) Devices and Algorithms REU will provide integrative research experiences at the overlap of sensor device design and algorithm development. Most of the projects will be under the auspices of the Sens
Former SenSIP IRES student Grace Billingsley receives the Fulton Schools Impact Award. Grace graduated from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering with a degree in Biomedical Engineeing and worked on collaborative Asu Sensip - DCU Insight research on deep learning methods for tumor detection. Her IRES work was sponsored by NSF. She is the lead author on the ICIP 2023 paper: Billingsley, Grace, Julia Dietlmeier, Vivek Narayanaswamy, Andreas Spanias, and Noel E. O’Connor. "AN L 2-Normalized Spatial Attention Network for Accurate and Fast Classification of Brain Tumors in 2D T1-Weighted CE-MRI Images." In 2023 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), pp. 1895-1899. IEEE, 2023. Details in
Spring 2024 Fulton Schools Impact Award winner Grace Billingsley Grace Billingsley aimed to help enhance people's lives with biomedical engineering. She created a neural network that detects brain tumors in MRI images.

Happy memorial day!
From ASU News: “As Memorial Day approaches, millions of Americans will reflect on fallen service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Our nation’s most sacred shrine of remembrance is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery.
While Tempe is some 2,300 miles from this iconic landmark near the nation’s capital, an Arizona State University alumnus and a student veteran have a personal connection to the symbolic grave and hallowed ground that serves as the final resting place for nearly 400,000 service members dating back to the Civil War.”

Our Asu Sensip workforce development programs started; 9 students joined the NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program in and 8 students started in our NSF International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) in . REU students are at ASU Tempe campus Labs while IRES students will travel to Dublin City University (DCU) and to the University of Cyprus for 6 weeks of research. Participating students from: Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering., Barrett, The Honors College at ASU, School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering at ASU, ASU School of Arts, Media and Engineering, ASU SCAI, ASU SBHSE, Princeton, MIT, CMU, Notre Dame, UC Berkeley Phoenix College.
A great Asu Sensip seminar last Thursday by Barrett, The Honors College at ASU / Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering student Grace Billingsley. The seminar was on the detection and classification of brain tumors using deep learning. This ASU-Dublin City University collaborative project is sponsored by the NSF IRES program. This study will also be presented at the IEEE Signal Processing Society ICIP conference in two weeks.
Our Asu Sensip IRES meeting and social on 5/26/2023. Ten Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering Students depart for Cyprus and Ireland next week for research at UCy KIOS and DCU Insight.
Our Sensip REU student Leslie Miller won the Fulton Engineering Impact award this year. She was also the graduating student speaker at the ASU Fulton Schools convocation earlier this month. Leslie's REU project was on Quantum Machine Learning for Imaging applications. Her work will be published at the IEEE DSP conference and also appear on IEEE Xplore. Read the story at
