Let me tell you about this young man right here. Lyam Bacon jumped in to help all over the grounds yesterday during the storm. He kept a spotlight generator from toppling over on cars and pop-up tent from flying away and possibly hurting people and property.

Lyam is just one of the many that didn't hesitate to jump in. Thank you to everyone that helped out yesterday (and every day). You are what makes our fair such a fantastic event!

Public Notice and Notice of Public Hearing
The county is eligible to apply for a 2024 Community Development Block Grant from the Business Oregon. Community Development Block Grant funds come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The grants can be used for public facilities and housing improvements, primarily for persons with low and moderate incomes.

Approximately $12 million will be awarded to Oregon non-metropolitan cities and counties in 2024. The maximum grant that a city or county can receive is $1,500,000. The county is preparing an application for a 2024 Community Development Block Grant from the Business Oregon for Columbia Gorge Crisis Resolution Center, 1819 W. 10th Street, The Dalles to provide 16 secure residential treatment beds and 16 non-secure residential treatment beds. It is estimated that the proposed project will benefit at least 32 persons, of whom 75% will be low or moderate income.

A public hearing will be held by the board of commissioners at 4:30 p.m. on August 26, 2024 at 401 E. 3rd Street, The Dalles, OR. The purpose of this hearing is for the board of commissioners to obtain citizen views and to respond to questions and comments about: community development and housing needs, especially the needs of low- and moderate-income persons, as well as other needs in the community that might be assisted with a Community Development Block Grant project; and the proposed project.

Written comments are also welcome and must be received by August 23, 2024 at 511 Washington Street, Ste. 101, The Dalles, OR 97058. Written comments can also be dropped off at the Clerk’s Office at 511 Washington Street, Ste. 201, The Dalles, OR. Written comments can also be emailed at [email protected]. Both oral and written comments will be considered by the board of commissioners in deciding whether to apply.

The location of the hearing is accessible to persons with disabilities. Please contact Kelly Walker, Executive Assistant to the Wasco County Board of County Commissioners, 401 E. 3rd St., The Dalles, OR, at 541-506-2520 if you will need any special accommodations to attend or participate in the meeting.

More information about Oregon Community Development Block Grants, the proposed project, and records about the county’s past use of Community Development Block Grant funds is available for public review at 401 E. 3rd Street, The Dalles, OR, during regular office hours. Advance notice is requested. If special accommodations are needed, please notify Kelly Walker at (541) 506-2520 so that appropriate assistance can be provided.

Permanent involuntary displacement of persons or businesses is not anticipated as a result from the proposed project. If displacement becomes necessary, alternatives will be examined to minimize the displacement and provide required/reasonable benefits to those displaced. Any low- and moderate-income housing that is demolished or converted to another use will be replaced.

The Gloria Center will open as a Cooling Shelter to provide a cool location, water, snacks, hygiene, and first aid items.

Cooling Shelter operations will be activated at The Gloria Center TODAY, Thursday Aug. 1, from 11 am to 7 pm. The Gloria Center is located at 2505 W. 7th in The Dalles.

Cooling Shelter operations will be led by MCCAC staff. Supports provided include a cool location, water, snacks, hygiene, and first aid items.

We are also accepting donations of supply items including gatorade, shelf-stable snack items, lip balm, and sunscreen. Supply donations may be dropped off to The Gloria Center during Cooling Center operations hours or regular business hours.

The Dalles Chamber and Bargeway Pub are hosting Cash'd Out, a Johnny Cash tribute band, on July 27th. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to CGHS. Tickets will be $10 in advance, and can be purchased at The Bargeway Pub. Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 8pm.

• From the intersection of Shadybrook Rd. and Hwy 197 west to the intersection of Shadybrook Rd and Tygh Creek Rd, south to Happy Ridge Rd. and east to Fairgrounds Rd.

LEVEL 3 - GO NOW: From Friend Rd in the north, east to Elliott Rd and the intersection of Dufur Gap Rd and Hwy 197. From the intersection of Dufur Gap Rd and Hwy 197 south to the Shadybrook Rd. From the intersection of Happy Ridge Rd and Mc Corkle in the west to the intersection of Shadybrook Rd and Hwy 197 in the southeast.

LEVEL 2 - GET SET
• **NEW** Wamic & Pine Hollow area from Happy Ridge Rd in the north down to Rock Creek Dam Rd/Wamic Market Rd. in the south, west to Threemile Rd. The intersection of Threemile Rd & Campbell Ln. in the west to Hwy 197 in the east. This area has been lowered from Level 3.
• From the intersection of Threemile Rd & Campbell Ln. west to Rock Creek Reservoir and south to the White River and east to Campbell Ln.

Although residences in Pine Hollow have been lowered to Level 2, recreation on the reservoir remains closed because of continued operations and weather. We will reassess the morning of Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

Fire crews are still in the area. Please give them space and patience as they continue to work on the incident.

The evacuation shelter at the Wy'East Middle School in Hood River will remain open.
