Home At Last Humane Society
Regional Non-Profit High Save Humane Society
Home at Last is a private, non-profit humane society located in The Dalles, Oregon in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. Started in 2000 by caring individuals who were concerned that too many dogs and cats were being euthanized in our community simply because they were homeless. Home at Last was born with nothing more than a firm belief that there was a better way to treat the needy pets in our community and a firm commitment to make these changes happen.
Who needs a best friend??
Things have been moving slow on the new Social Medias for Columbia Gorge Humane Society so we decided to do a few more posts here to keep people informed on what’s going on. Don’t forget HAL and CGHS are only different names! We have all the same animals and staff members.
We need adopters! Applications for adopting has slowed down recently and we are hoping to get things picked back up again. We will give a discount to the first 3 people that come and adopt a dog from us! Some of our adoption fee’s are already as low as $25 due to how long they have been here.
We have many different breeds, ages and activity levels! This particular dog is Scrappy and she is so so sweet. She just needs a chance!

DOG FOOD DONATIONS NEEDED!
The shelter is no longer Home At Last but it is still all the same animals and staff members. Dogs still need two meals a day, everyday! And our dog population is large right now. We need your help more than ever! Please please bring a bad of dog food down to the shelter if you are able. We have very limited funds to purchase food! Your donations keep bellies full and help us serve as many animals as possible.
Thank you!
We just got a second one in today, adult female. Came from up around the hospital!
EDIT: Sorry for the confusion… this is our last post on this particular page. This dog was just found and he is the last one we will be posting as Home at Last. Nothing bad is happening to this dog. He is great. We want him to return to his family
This will be our last official post!!
Can we help find this little boys owners?? He came in last night and is extremely sweet and lovey.
Phones are currently down due to work being done in the office! If you need to contact us please email [email protected] or message either the HAL Facebook or the Columbia Gorge Humane Society Facebook. Hopefully we will be up and running by Monday!
The shelter is in need of someone that knows a little something about dryers! We have one that is having some issues and are hoping that it can be fixed instead of replacing it. Do you or anyone you know have any knowledge on dryers? I will list some other small items the shelter is always needing!
Exam gloves
Paper towels
Laundry detergent
Dish soap
Mopping supplies
Disinfectant wipes and spray
Printer paper
Gallon zip lock bags
LARGE collars
Leashes
DOG TREATS
We appreciate our community so much and you all are so gracious. Thank you for assisting the community in all the large and small ways ❤️

We’ve posted before for the cans and bottles position and it is still open! We have dropped the maintenance part of this position for now, we mainly need someone to help us keep this major program of ours going. Please send a resume to [email protected] if you are interested!
Both of these dogs came in over the weekends! The first does have a rabies tag and I was able to get a phone number from a veterinarian however haven’t heard anything back from owners yet (not sure if numbers are current.) The second dog was found out between Dufur/Tygh Valley and there are posts going around that she has a family. Please call us if either of them are yours!
This is potentially the last post under Home At Last! If you haven’t followed Columbia Gorge Humane Society’s new Instagram and Facebook please do to stay up to date on things happening at the shelter. Links are below!

Currently at the shelter! He has a microchip but it isn’t registered unfortunately, and no collar. Please message us if he is yours or you recognize him!
TOBY!
This is Toby’s second time being in the shelter at no fault of his own. Toby loves the ladies, especially when they give him b***y rubs. Tony would prefer a gentle soul to be his nee forever family has he has some trauma from his past. Once you win this guy over though he will be the best friend you could ever ask for. Come meet this sweet guy!
We just shared Gizmo… but come on guys. Look at this adorable fella!
We have lots of hungry doggies here right now and are in need of dog food! If you are able to donate any please bring it by ❤️

Hours may vary in the next few weeks while we work on hiring new staff. Technicians are still there to take care of all the animals! The shelter director will be there as often as she can to keep the shelter open to the public. If you need something specific please message us and we can make sure someone is available. Thank you!
Charlie isn’t available but he is an example of an adoptee doing his job cuddling his new momma ❤️
We have both amazing dogs and volunteers! We currently have volunteer applications available in the office and on Columbia Gorge Humane Society’s website. Link below!

Let’s clear up a few things real quick.
If there is a question in ownership over a dog that is being held at the shelter PROOF of ownership will be required to regain possession of the animal. Who the proof is through will be called to verify the information. If information is falsified the animal will not be released. We are here to serve the animals. Once an animal is placed in our care it is our responsibility to make sure it is going back to the rightful owner if one can be located. We don’t run into an ownership issue very often but if we do there are extra steps we must take. We aren’t doing it for the money (we do not make money on adoptions.) We are also not trying to steal dogs. There is a large enough supply of stray dogs we have no reason to keep animals that have rightful owners. Thank you for understanding!
The new page is up and running again!
Please give it a follow so you can continue to see all of our posts once we fully switch over. Thank you so much everyone for the support during this process! 💙
