6/27 6am ET/5am CT: Showers and storms are getting an early start in the Florida Panhandle. Storms will increase in coverage and intensity late this morning into the afternoon. There is a Marginal Risk of severe weather (level 1 of 5) for southwest Georgia and the adjacent Alabama and Florida counties for the potential of locally damaging wind gusts.
Good morning! We have some heat to deal with the next couple of days with highs in the lower 90s. The good news is a cold front will swing through later this week. The bad news is that cold front will bring the chance for strong to severe thunderstorms Thursday into Friday morning. There is the potential for multiple waves of thunderstorms with this front. We'll know more as we get closer to the event, so be sure to stay updated with the forecast in the coming days!

HURRICANE IDALIA UPDATE
BE PREPARED: Hurricane Idalia is entering our area and we expect to experience the strongest of the storm between now and 2:00pm. Be prepared with supplies needed in case of power outage.
SHELTER: If you need a safe shelter, please make your way to the provided shelter at the Tift County Recreation Department building, located at 401 N. Victory Drive, Tifton, that will be open until 7:00pm. Tables and chairs will be provided. No alcohol or pets allowed.
STAY HOME: Please shelter in place until conditions improve. Residents are encouraged to remain off the roads. Do not try to drive through standing water or debris.

HURRICANE IDALIA UPDATE
SHELTER: The cities of Tifton, Ty Ty and Omega and Tift County will provide a safe shelter for those residents in need of short-term relocation or seeking a location to provide safety during the storm. The Tift County Recreation Department building, located at 401 N. Victory Drive, Tifton, will be open Wednesday, August 30th, from 7:00am to 7:00pm. Tables and chairs will be provided. No alcohol or pets allowed.
PREPARATION: Move anything outside your home or business that could blow around during the storm indoors or under shelter. Anchor any objects that would be unsafe to bring inside. Charge all devices and portable chargers. Have a battery-powered radio and flashlights available in case of power outage.
