Show season is around the corner and now is the time to start riding in your show boots, show socks, and breeches that are the same brand or style as your show breeches. You don’t want to have any malfunctions on show day!

: Be consistent in your socks. Yes, really. If you ride every day in thin boot socks and then switch to something thick at the show, it’s going to feel weird, and vice versa. If you can, stay consistent in your boots and your breeches, too; if you’re able to have both a show boot and a schooling boot, consider making sure they’re the same brand and make and model, so they don’t ride differently. And if you have a favorite everyday breech, see if you can order the same one in white for show day.

(For the record, this is not an ad: my favorite socks come from Sock It To Me. They’re the best.) 🧦🧦🧦

Your tack is an important piece of equipment. Be sure to give your tack some love on a regular basis! ❤️

Temperature and humidity affect your tack. If you’re in cold climates, check your leather for cracks. If you’re in hot and humid climates, check your stitching for rot. No matter the temperature, you should be cleaning your tack often, and always checking for wear and damage. At my house we do bridles and girths daily, and saddles less often, but checking the billet straps daily for wear and tear 🪡

Every year I’m asked what are my favorite blankets (because I have a million) and my answer will always be Horseware. I’ve used just about every type of blanket and these hold up the best. I’ve admittedly gone to cheaper alternatives over the years but have stuck true for the last few years after someone gave me a few used ones. I never wanted to spend the money on the Horseware brand. But they’re the most hard wearing blankets I’ve ever owned. I’ve done the blankets with the warranties and either had issues with sending them back because I just frankly don’t have time or just issues with the companies. But even the used ones I have that are well over 10 years old have held true and strong with even my worst blanket destroyers!!! The bundles with the liners are by far my favorite because you’re basically getting 2-3 blankets in one and they don’t take up a ton of room on the blanket rack. These are also the only blankets I’ve ever owned that they don’t rub their manes out with! You’re welcome in advance 😜

Hidden Hill Acres LLC invites you to join us for Tom Pierson's Groundwork Clinic on Saturday, July 22, 9 am to 3 pm. Tom resides at Mardanza Farms in Florida from fall to springtime and lives in Traverse City, MI, in the summer. He is a master with the young horse, and many have gone on to successful careers on the race track, eventing, dressage, reining, working cow horses, ranch riding, and more. Tom is well versed in coaching non-pro reiners, ranch riders, and anyone wanting to improve their horsemanship. He will teach you how to create boundaries with your horse for a safe environment for both of you.

USDF Silver Medalist Rachelle will be joining Tom to demonstrate how horsemanship on the ground is connected to horsemanship in the saddle.

Spots are limited. Please email Hayley at [email protected] to reserve your spot today. No refunds. $125 per session along with group work.

Last week, the Hidden Hill Acres staff had a team training on some of the basics, how to properly lead, halt, and back a horse. We all know this should be a given but we become comfortable with our horses and forget that they can forget their training as well. The team spent an evening reviewing basic horsemanship skills and how important it is to set boundaries for not only the horses safety, but for ours too. Thank you Betsy for the reminders and how important basic horsemanship is.

Stay tuned for an upcoming horsemanship clinic with Tom Pierson!
