What do we know about other people's expierences, thoughts, or dreams? What do we know about our own? We are multifacted beings comprised of more than we can comprehend.

This piece is about the subconscious, what lies beneath, the unseen. A meditation on the deep waters of the mind and heart.

I had to work small for the last couple years because I could barely lift my arms or stand for that long. I would do short 10 minute bursts in the studio if I could muster the energy. But, I never gave up on the idea that I would be back in there working like I did before. And now I am, but with caveats. I need to take breaks. It takes longer to complete a painting. It’s physically more taxing on my body and sometimes I push it and pay for it in pain later.

But, I’m here. At the beginning of a new colorblock series. It’s amazing to dream and plan again.

Inspired by the Winter Solstice. I imagined myself sitting by a warm fire, spiced tea in hand, jazz on the record player, and a snowstorm outside.

I’m a soft girl now. I cry often and easily. I don’t take feeling comfort and levity for granted. I sit here with a body that can create art and be a mother and also goes through so much pain and healing simultaneously.

I’ve learned life is for loving. Loving your children, your family, the sunrise, your cat, your cup of coffee. It’s for finding the small joys that make you well up inside.

Love has carried me over and over and over.

I am alive. Creating art. Breathing. Feeling all the things. Better than last year. I didn’t know if that would be possible a year ago.

Chronic Illness is a journey I wish for no one, but a potent teacher nontheless.

These paintings are a meditation on emotions I went through during my toughest times and the lessons of fluidity. Letting feelings come and go.

These are some of the biggest and most valuable lessons I have learned.

After almost two years of dealing with an illness that upended my life, I am back in the studio with paintbrush in my hand and a whole new collection of 17 paintings to share with you.

This is the most personal and vulnerable work I've ever created.
It's taken a lot to get here, but I am so grateful.

I hope it brings you some solace and light, just as it did for me.

If you would have told me a year ago I’d be doing this large of a mural I would have never believed you. My healing journey with Lupus has been long and winding but I can’t help but step back and see how far I’ve come.

So honored to create and paint this piece.
