The Elizabeth Murray Artist Residency (EMAR) program by Collar Works is designed to provide emerging, underrepresented, and established artists an immersive, supportive, productive, and communal atmosphere for art-making and dialogue on a bucolic 77-acre farm in Granville, NY. The summer residency offers 2 and 4-week residencies for individual artists and 1-week residencies for families.

Join us THIS FRIDAY July 26th during Troy Night Out from 6-9pm at 50 4th Street in Downtown Troy for an art-filled night! See our exhibition “Lightfast” and three floors of artists’ studios that include works from our current residents as well as other local artists: Nuveen Barwari, Renée Bouchard, Bella Burnett, Ruben Castillo, Katie Chin, Allison DeBritz, Maura Jasper, Kate Kosek, Rachael Lorimer, Dustin Loveland, Cecilia Lu, Damari McBride, & Victoria van der Laan.

Collar Works and Baba Yaga are hosting the opening party to ‘Absolute Viscosity’, an exhibition exploring how the artifacts we accumulate mold our identity. In the featured drawings and sculptures, artists Alicia Barton and Christian Henry create reliquaries of their nostalgia, exploring and probing the plasticity of selfhood.

In addition to the amazing art there will be live music, s’mores, a fire pit, and epic refreshments!

Collar Works x Baba Yaga presents...⁠

'Absolute Viscosity,' an exhibition exploring how the artifacts we accumulate mold our identity. In the featured drawings and sculptures, artists Alicia Barton and Christian Henry Wechgelaer create reliquaries of their nostalgia, exploring and probing the plasticity of selfhood.

Influenced by Baudrillard’s ideas of the hyperreal, Wechgelaer’s graphite and colored pencil drawings are steeped in personal symbology, drawing on a reverent sentimentality for images and memories of the artist’s past. Barton’s Mini Monsters appear as a candy-coated vision: irregularly formed creatures adorned with the remnants of a MySpace-era adolescence.

Through these works, the artists develop their own semiotic systems, begging the question: how much does who we are shape the things we collect, and how much do the things we collect shape who we are?

1. Submit via submittable up until the day before the event. Drop off your work ahead of time (drop off dates below, with more to come) OR simply bring your ready to hang work with you on June 8th!

2. Swing by 50 4th St Troy, NY 12180 during drop off hours this week to sign up and drop off your work in person.

Emerging and underrepresented artists and curators, working in any media, exhibiting challenging and culturally relevant contemporary artworks are invited to submit artworks for consideration across our programs. Both artists and individual curators interested in submitting curatorial proposals, must fill out a submission form and adhere to guidelines. Submissions will be reviewed on an ongoing basis by Collar Works Staff and an exhibition committee of artists and arts professionals.

The 50 4th Street Studio Residency
by Collar Works in partnership with ChaShaMa

The 50 4th Street Studio Residency is designed to provide emerging and underrepresented Capital Region artists with space and community to develop new work. Located in the former Union Bank in downtown Troy, NY, the urban studio residency program is open to the public and embeds artists in their community while providing them with no-cost studio space. Six artists will be selected for each 3-month residency session, during which they will have 24-hour access to large shared studio spaces with natural lighting in the heart of downtown Troy.

APPLY BY MAY 24TH for consideration for the first session! Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
