Caring Ministries

We are a non-profit ministry serving Tucson and the surrounding areas for over 40 years.

It’s our vision that everyone in Southern Arizona has the opportunity to be loved and live healthy lives. Caring Ministries has been providing food and clothing to families across Southern Arizona for over 40 years. The work began in the early-1970s when Pastor Ross Hanna started a food ministry out of Sharing Ministries Baptist Church in the Old Pascua neighborhood of Tucson. In 1992, that minist

Fry's Food Stores, is one of many stores that Caring Ministries rescues food from. We were invited to celebrate with them for being the ZERO HERO for the fourth quarter of 2023. This means that of all the 120+ stores in Arizona, this store donated the most food. The store then is provided a check to give to any nonprofit they choose, they decided on Caring Ministries!! What an incredible blessing to partner with this store that understands the food needs in the community and gives generously.

We send our trucks out six days a week to pick up food from grocery stores throughout Tucson. Here is a look inside the one truck after four stores. It may not seem like a lot yet, but there are still more stores to visit and sometimes pallets of food that also have to fit.

There are several ways in which Caring tries to have tasks for each age demographic. Often you can see young children assisting in making food boxes or bagging candy that will be put into the food boxes. We also have seasoned folks assisting on the truck runs and helping at food distributions. Recently, the team heard about Norma, a 93-year-old woman who loves to do projects to keep herself busy. She grew up on a farm in Kansas. Her dad worked for the government and his work brought the family to Fort Wachucca in 1967. The family settled in Tucson and her dad would make the commute every day. Norma has four children, two of whom have ties to Caring Ministries in some way. Sonia is the wife of Gordon who is the pastor of First Baptist Church Picacho a partner church to Caring. Sonia's sister Paula volunteers for a few hours at our other resource center. Word got around that several flyers needed to be altered with white-out. Knowing that this project would be great for Norma, she would take several flyers home for her to work on. We are thankful for Norma taking the time to go through piles of flyers. Volunteers are a huge part of Caring Ministries. If you are interested in volunteer opportunities visit wearecaring.org/get-involved.
