A Texas federal district court has halted the FTC's non-compete ban that was set to take effect on September 4. Employers may continue using non-compete agreements according to state laws, but those who informed employees of unenforceability should consult legal counsel. Future developments are possible if the ruling is appealed.

📣 EMPLOYMENT LAW NEWS: The U.S. Department of Justice has launched a pilot Corporate Whistleblower Awards Program to incentivize individuals who report corporate misconduct and violations of federal law.
In addition, the amendment states that companies that receive an internal whistleblower report, notify DOJ within 120 days, cooperate with the investigation and rectify the misconduct will qualify for a presumption of a declination.
The new program aims to not only to provide individuals with incentives to report corporate crime but also to motivate corporations to create more robust compliance programs that detect and deter criminal conduct. For more details, read the full article below. ⤵️

📣 IMMIGRATION LAW UPDATE: Recent immigration policy changes will modify the green card process for mixed-status families.
Starting Aug. 19, 2024, spouses of U.S. citizens who are undocumented and have been in the U.S. at least 10 years as of June 17, 2024, will be able to apply for legal permanent residency. Spouses without legal status will be able to apply from the U.S. and not be required to go back to their native countries, which has previously resulted in long-term separations. The U.S. Department of State has also revised its guidance to help expedite the work visa process for immigrants with U.S. college degrees and job offers.
