All the way back in 2016, when I was an apprentice, I did this piece on an old friend that offered up his leg as sacrifice just to help better my career. What are friends for right? This man has walked around with this unfinished poison bottle for last 8 years since until yesterday. It’s not too often that we tattoo artists get to revamp our own work, those chances are rare, and I got my opportunity. Thank you Jrod for being so supportive over the years, for being easy to talk to, for being one of the most chill people I’ve ever had in my chair, for being a real one, and for letting me do this! Happy to FINALLY see her finished after all this time.

8 years ago today I started tattooing, and it’s taught me so much, not just about art but also about myself and how I function as a person.

When I started, I wanted to be a black and grey artist, and eventually learned that I loved colors! The black and grey did come back around, and it taught me to slow down.

At 19 I was worried about talking with clients , small talk and answering the phone isn’t really my forte, but tattooing taught me that none of that really mattered; the right people will find you and follow you.

If you’ve ever been in my chair, you’ve probably heard me say, “you can cry in my booth, I think everyone has!”

So here’s to 8 years of tears, happy or sad. 8 years of hurting myself with my chair while I tell y’all to be careful. Here’s to 8 years of dumb dad jokes and being the voice without reason that yells in the distance to just do it because you’re already here. 8 years of “what should I put on this flash sheet?” and then not taking any of the suggestions. 8 years of staying up until three in the morning drawing just to scrap the whole thing and start over. 8 years of fighting a printer, and 8 years of an experience that has made me feel every emotion I can fathom, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

I might not be the luckiest 19 year old anymore, but I’m a pretty lucky 27 year old that still loves this 8 years later.
