The Valdosta City Schools Foundation awarded two deserving employees $1,000 scholarships. This was made available for current VCS teachers and paraprofessionals working to obtain a masters or higher level degree from an accredited college or university. We are so thankful that they have the desire to become better educators and that we are able to financially assist them in their academic journeys.

The Kicks for Cats founders are Valdosta High School graduates! πŸŽ“Jay is headed to Morehouse College and Brayden will continue his education at the University of Georgia. They began Kicks for Cats their freshman year and since it’s inception they have donated over 800 pairs of shoes, 3 scholarships and countless school supplies to the students of Valdosta City Schools. Although they are headed to college Kicks for Cats will continue to help students in our community, so please be on the lookout for upcoming events and opportunities to participate! Congratulations to Kadeesha Hill, winner of the inaugural Roosevelt Lowther Memorial Scholarship worth $500.

Mr. Roosevelt Lowther was a beloved member of the Valdosta Wildcat community and this scholarship was established by family and friends to honor his lifelong Wildcat legacy.

Mr. Lowther spent his entire career in Valdosta City Schools. He began in August of 1979 serving one year at Valdosta High School. In 1980, he moved to Valdosta Junior High School and spent 14 years teaching in the science department. During the summer of 1994 he moved back to Valdosta High School where he completed 21 more years teaching various science courses. Lowther retired in May of 2014 but came back for one year as a part-time science teacher. Following that year, he has remained a constant on the campus of VHS as a long-term and day to day substitute teacher. He loved his Friday night responsibilities as the "on-duty" teacher for the VHS student section at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.

Congratulation to Avery Claire Jowers, 2024 SGMC Health Foundation Scholarship winner.

The annual $1,000 South Georgia Medical Center Scholarship was established in 2023 by a generous gift from the SGMC Foundation in order to provide scholarships to Valdosta High School and/or Valdosta Early College Academy seniors seeking to pursue a career in the field of health care. The SGMC Scholarship exists to alleviate some of the financial burden of higher education in order to help create a future for healthcare students in South Georgia.

Congratulations to Jaylen Denton, the winner of the 2024 C**ton Deane ROTC Memorial Scholarship.

The Edward C**ton Dean Memorial Scholarship is a $1,500 scholarship available a graduating senior involved in the VHS Naval JROTC program who plans to attend a college, university or technical school.

Who was Edward C**ton Dean?

Edward C**ton Dean, or C**t, as his friends and family called him, was a Wildcat to his core! He could make friends easily and loved everything about the JROTC program. Following in his brother Reed's footsteps at VHS was a challenge C**t accepted and one he excelled at as a VHS Cadet. He felt that leadership was giving your all for the sake of those around you. He strived to lead not by force, but by integrity, honor, empathy and honesty. This scholarship is to honor his efforts, his memory and his friendships through the VHS Naval JROTC.

Valdosta City Schools Foundation, Inc. is thrilled to release two $1,000, one-time scholarships available to current certified employees working towards an advanced educational degree and classified employees working towards an education degree.

Recipients must plan to return to Valdosta City Schools for the 2024-25 school year. Interested applicants should visit the scholarship website to complete the online application.

Today we celebrated our top sellers for our annual Feeling Lucky in Winnersville raffle. Two students earned a pizza party for their entire class!! As an added treat, our 5th grade class also got ice cream sandwiches and our PreK class enjoyed yummy cups of ice cream.

Congratulations to John Nixon, Jr., 3rd grader in Miss Wright's class and Janard Harris, PreK student in Ms. Sales' class, both at WG Nunn Elementary School. John sold 50 tickets and Janard sold 55 tickets! We truly appreciate your support of the Valdosta City Schools Foundation, Inc.

Huge thanks to WG Nunn Elementary School for supporting our annual Feeling Lucky in Winnersville raffle.

Two students worked extra hard selling tickets to earn their classes a yummy pizza party. Overall their school sold 113 tickets. Thanks Mrs. Moss and WGN for committing to support our educational foundation.

The Valdosta City Schools Foundation was delighted to join the February 1 luncheon of the Azalea City Civic Club, Valdosta GA. At the meeting, ACCC generously presented both VCSF and the Lowndes Education Improvement Foundation with $5,000 checks, proceeds from the annual Winnersville Classic Golf Tournament. The annual Valdosta North Rotary: Teacher Appreciation Dinner celebrated the educators of our community on Tuesday, January 30 with guest speaker Willie Spears. The event was filled with laughs, gratitude and recognition of all the hard work in our school systems and of our local educators.

The Valdosta City Schools Foundation and Lowndes Education Improvement Foundation were grateful to receive another generous donation from the Club. The funds given to VCSF will be given back to each of our school’s Teacher of the Year for use in his or her school or classroom.

Thank you to everyone who makes this event such a memorable success for all. And remember, !!

Student applicants must complete all required application materials outlined below. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Have an adult review your completed application before submitting. The applicant will receive an email with a PDF document of their application for review.

Student applicants must submit their completed application packet online by 11:59 pm on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria to be considered for a scholarship:

Preference is given to students who have been enrolled in Valdosta City Schools from K – 12th grade.

The student must be enrolled in Valdosta High School or Valdosta Early College Academy.

The student must be accepted for admission to an accredited college, university, or technical school (attach acceptance letter(s)).

The student must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher throughout their junior and senior years.

The student must retain full-time enrollment.

Students who meet the eligibility requirements will be rated and selected by a scholarship committee based on the following criteria (incomplete scholarship application packets will not be rated):

Letter(s) of enrollment acceptance from a public college, university, or technical school

Personal essay from the student discussing their life experiences and expressing their future plans and goals. Students should take this opportunity to speak personally about their struggles, their victories, those things that set them apart from their peers.

Letter of support from an adult who states (1) potential for applicant’s success in and beyond college and (2) why the student should be the recipient from among the applicants.

Completed counselor's form. This will include the student's official high school transcript.

Scholarships of up to $2,500 will be granted to students who took part in the Valdosta Middle School Academic Service Learning Exchange with the Colne Community School in Colchester, Essex, United Kingdom. Although the VMS program has concluded, the sponsors are allocating the remaining funds to support students keen on engaging in study abroad programs affiliated with their educational institution.

Applications will remain open until all funds are disbursed.

The 2023-2024 Payroll Deduction Campaign was another success! The VCS Foundation saw the third highest level of giving since annual campaigns began almost eight years ago. With the generous support of our VCS family, we received a total of $1,745 from 57 one-time donors and secured a commitment of $2,287 monthly from 316 donors. As promised, all donors contributing at least $60 per year were entered into the gift card drawing.
