Coming up in June: MyLuckyEars: Priscila Soares Solo Art Show - Sharing experiences of hearing differences through art.
As an artist residing and creating in Vallejo, CA, Priscila’s passion lies in educating and advocating for individuals with hearing differences. Drawing from her own journey as a hard-of-hearing individual who wears Bone Anchored Hearing Aids, as well as being a parent to a son who is deaf and utilizes both sign language and oral communication alongside cochlear implants, Priscila has channeled her experiences into artworks that celebrate acceptance, honor, and recognition within the community.
For years, she has poured her heart into a collection of paintings, sculptures, and illustrations, all centered around this theme. It is with great joy that she announces the unveiling of her first family-friendly solo art show: “MyLuckyEars”, featuring the launch of a children’s book she has illustrated, titled “Cesaria Feels the Beat,” which has already received three starred reviews. This powerful and inspiring picture book features a deaf girl who stands up for herself and takes off her shoes while dancing at her Carnival performance so she can feel the music through her bare feet.
We invite you to join us for the Opening Reception as well as the special “Cesaria Feels The Beat” Book Launch party on June 8th from 12-5pm. Additionally, throughout the month of June, our doors will be open to visitors every Saturday and Sunday from 12-4pm, offering a chance to immerse yourself in her creations.
Furthermore, she is also offering opportunities to schedule private group field trips on specific dates within the month, tailored to your group’s needs, including engaging FREE educational and art activities set up for all visitors to enjoy.
Your presence at this event is an opportunity not only to showcase her work but also to connect with individuals who share a passion for art, diversity, inclusion, and advocacy.

We Love it Here
We love making art, we love sharing the joy of making art, and we love talking about art, and we love encouraging others to make art! The Mare Island Art Studios is a collective of 19 creatives including sculptors and ceramacists, mosaic and mixed media artists, photographers, printmakers, and painters (oh my!), fiber artists and quirky makers, to name a few. A little history--we were originally established as the “Coal Shed Studios” in 1999 by mobiliste sculptor Tim Rose (1942-2008), whose work now hangs at our new location at 110 Pintado St. on Mare Island. We are proud and grateful to be a part of a ferociously vibrant Vallejo arts community. We are open every Sunday from 12-4 as part of Mare Island’s Wet Mile, where you can visit the brewery, the distillery, and the tasting room, and take in some cool art here at the MIA Studios.
