We have enjoyed serving the Art Community in Vallejo since 2010 by bringing you citywide Vallejo Open Studios (VOS) each year along with our wonderful art exhibits at the Vallejo Museum.

More than 200 Artists have shown their work during VOS over the years. We thank them and all of you for your participation and support. We know we will continue to cross paths.

For the last 5 months I have participated in the CAMN Clean Air Ambassador Program which included wonderful programming and education in collaboration with Touro University California and UC Davis !

Today we met with VIET Tran Deputy Executive Officer of Public Affairs of the BAAQMD and shared stories about real life situations we are experiencing in Vallejo. We also heard about what both universities continue to do to improve one of life's most precious resources our AIR!💨🥰🙏🏾

Our meeting was held at the beautiful campus of California State University Maritime Academy - Cal Maritime and was the perfect setting overlooking the refineries off in the distance that contribute to the "toxic soup" sadly found above our city.

I seriously recommend that every citizen who lives in Vallejo takes advantage of the CAMN's Clean Air Ambassador Program!! With asthma rates here in Vallejo being THREE TIMES HIGHER than the state average (among other things) our lives literally depend on it!

Thank you again Ken Szutu and Jimmy Sarmiento and everyone else involved in building Vallejos skill and knowledge base regarding our air! 🙌🏾 And lunch was delicious, thanks!😜

Vallejo Center for the Arts Launches Innovative Project Addressing Environmental Issues

Vallejo, CA - The Vallejo Center for the Arts (VCA) is proud to announce its latest initiative, a groundbreaking project that harnesses the transformative power of art and the spoken word to address pressing issues of water and energy conservation, climate change, emergency preparedness, relief, and recovery. Seven local artists and two poets, renowned for their commitment to environmental activism and social justice, have been selected to participate in this project.

The participating artists are creating new and impactful works inspired by direct community feedback received through surveys, ensuring that the art produced is not only aesthetically compelling but deeply connected to the unique challenges faced by the local community. These artists have been chosen for their ability to utilize their craft as a catalyst for change, reflecting a strong commitment to collaboration and amplifying marginalized voices.

In a commitment to inclusivity and community engagement, the Vallejo Center for the Arts will host a public listening session at the Empress Marquee Lounge located at 324 Virginia Street on Sunday, January 28 at 4:00pm. This session will provide an opportunity for direct interaction with the community, allowing for additional feedback and input on the ongoing project.

The Vallejo Center for the Arts expresses its gratitude to the Sacramento Creative Corp for their generous grant, which has made this innovative project possible. This collaboration exemplifies the interconnectedness of various artistic and cultural organizations working together to address environmental and social justice issues.

VCA remains steadfast in its mission to promote artistic excellence and foster community engagement through transformative initiatives. This project underscores the potential of the arts to be a powerful force for positive change, building bridges between the artistic community and the broader public.
