Fight Back Self Defense
I am a self defense instructor. Classes are open to anyone, with a special focus on individuals with blindness and other physical disabilities. Thank you.
My name is Jim Turk. I am a self-defense instructor, and also happen to be completely blind. It is an unfortunate fact that criminals often target people who are perceived, for whatever reason, as "easy targets". The reasons for this perception could range from a person’s age, gender, physical size, or, as in my case, a noticeable disability. Regardless of the reason for this perception of vulnera
Make sure you familiarize yourself with the self defense laws of your area.
Ladies, Those favorite pair of hills can definitely be used to defend yourself from an attacker.
A hard swift kick to the knee cap will bring anybody straight down.
If your first thought is to not go, then don't go.
Thank you to Joeita Gupta. I enjoyed our conversation on The Pulse podcast and appreciate the opportunity to talk about self-defense and Fight Back!

There's no such thing as a fair fight. Especially if that fight is with a stranger.
Always remember to remain calm no matter the situation.
If you just can't fightback or throw a simple punch, please cary a can of pepper spray.
As the summertime heats up, the sure to stay vigilant of your bags, suitcases, purses, etc.
Hey ladies! That purse that you love to cary, can be a useful weapon to the face of your attacker. Just be sure the straps are strong.
Using your heel to stomp on your attacker's foot can easily break their bones.
If the situation calls for such, you can always defend yourself by jamming a thumb in the eye.
Be mindful of how flashy you are in public, because some people see cool things as targets.
When all other options are exhausted, or you just can't seem to get your attacker off of you, you can use your teeth to bite either an arm, hand or finger. Even though this tactic isn't necessarily recommended, it could definitely make them think twice about covering your nose and mouth, or continuing such attack.
When someone is attacking you, and you can't think of anything else, remember the good old fashion knee straight to the growing still works.
Your phone can be a huge distraction, so try putting it away if there's no real use for it at the time.
When you're out traveling, paying close attention to your surroundings at all times can help you avoid being targetted by an attacker.
If someone has you in a bear hug you can use your head as a defense weapon right on the nose.
Always remember that if someone grabs you it doesn't matter how big or strong they are, you can still break their pinky finger.

It's often referred to as the "girl code", but it applies to anybody... if you go anywhere with a group of friends, make sure everyone leaves together to ensure everyone's safety.
Hello!
My name is Jim Turk.
Did you know that there's a completely blind Self-Defense instructor right here in Villa Park?
That's right, it's me! A completely blind instructor who has been teaching Self-Defense courses all over the country for over a decade. I've won awards, been featured on TV and radio, and have had newspaper articles written about me and the work that I do. My courses do not require any previous experience or training of any sort. Even the techniques I teach can be performed by almost anyone regardless of size, strength, or level of physical fitness. I'm not just a self-defense instructor though, I also teach introductory Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Located at Joe's Dojo, 341 S. Ardmore Ave here in Villa Park.

If you choose to carry a weapon, be sure it is legal and be sure you know how to use it to defend yourself.
Always pay close attention to your surroundings, because you could end up needing to defend yourself at anytime.
Always remember that your life is more important than a wallet. So if you are caught alone having to defend yourself. Let them have it! Because your life is worth another day.
If you end up in a self defense situation while traveling. Remember that your cane is not the best option as a weapon. Because if it gets damaged or broken, you could find yourself stranded.
