The Joe's Dojo crew came out great today at the Illinois State Championship today
Sarah (on top of making amazing cookies) took 1st place in Kata, Weapons and Sparing
Josh took 3rd in Kata
Mia took 2nd in Kata and sparing and 1st in Weapons
Job took 2nd place in Kata
And Micheal finished strong taking 1st place in kata as well

I have been silent for a bit waiting for my doctor to tell me my knee results and the next steps. If I haven't gotten the chance to talk to anyone I will try to sum it up here.

4th of July parade I injured myself while performing tornado kicks. There it's a tradition near the end of the route that we do a large number of kicks and takes pictures with a large group of fans. While landing my 10th kick my left knee did not rotate and my body weight twisted around it. Tearing my acl and meniscus.

I took the next couple weeks with appointments and tests to find pout that surgery is my best option to have an athletic life going forward.

Surgery is scheduled for August 15th. There is a long recovery process with the first couple weeks being immobilized and long sessions of physical therapy to repair the repaired knee.

During this time I will not be at the dojo at all. This time will likely be 4-6 weeks than I can return with limited capacity for things after. I will seem pretty normal 6 months after, and should be fully functional 1 year later.

I am a leader that does my best to inspire and lead by example. So I can't describe how hard it is for me to tell anyone no I can't do or show you something I want you to do better at.

For the next month classes should be mostly unaffected since Sensei Devin, Sensei Carter, and Sempei Carrie have been teaching the classes during the week nights. They have been doing a wonderful job and will continue to do so. Home school morning classes will be taught by Sempei Matt and Sensei Carter. Saturday classes will be covered by a couple different teachers.

This Saturday will be my last regular class that I teach before surgery. So if you want to come in and wish me luck on my surgery or just to get one extra class with me, chime in in. I'm going to be specializing the class on self defense, and it will be for all ages and ranks a great class.

If you are a parent that has been hiding on the bench this could be an opportunity to jump in for a class.

I'm also planning on opening a 9 am class for purple belts and up for some advanced self defense, and to help align their goals.

📣 Attention all karate students and parents! Today is one of the most exciting days of the year in our karate community. We'll be hitting the streets and demonstrating how to have an incredible time with karate!

📍 Let's meet at the dojo between 8:30-9 am. We'll gather to go over the awesome moves we'll showcase while marching. Plus, students will have the chance to choose their weapons to spin and dazzle the crowd! 🔥🤩

👕 Remember, the parade uniform is a karate shirt, karate pants or shorts, and athletic shoes. No flip-flops or shoes that make jump kicks challenging, please! We want everyone to feel comfortable and ready to rock those moves. 💪👟

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 If you have a karate student under 6 years old, we kindly ask that a family member accompanies them. We've got a special truck ready for our little warriors or those who need a break from marching along the full parade route. 🚚💤

🚗 Drop off your student at the dojo, and remember to come back to pick them up after the parade ends. We'll be waiting for you with exciting stories and big smiles! 😄

Activity: Real World Minecraft is a live action game where kids play Minecraft where they are the actual character. We transform the dojo into Minecraft world. Participants will mine, craft, build a base, and work with other good guys to fight off monsters.

During the game, the participants use special foam swords and pickaxes. They are lightweight in game items that allow them to mine and fight. They will collect resources trading them with a vendor to upgrade their equipment. In the game, each Minecraft day is about 10 minutes, which has day and night cycles that come with different challenges. The people will work together to fight bosses monsters and get to loot and potentially magical equipment.

Each week, the adventurers will come back to a new world but will be able to use their equipment and magic items that they earned at any previous Minecraft night.

Since this is a new season, we will start everyone off with no equipment. They will have to start by collecting resources to build this first base and be safe during the night.

We will be offering a recruitment bonus for people who bring friends or family members. They will be allowed to start with extra starting gear or have a pre-constructed base. Rewards will be cumulative, allowing more gear, armor, or even magical enchantments for recruiting more players.

No Minecraft experience is needed to play. All crafting and fighting will be taught to participants during mini games before the full game starts.

Special guest sensei Chris stopped in to visit the dojo today! Chris started around 8 years old got his black belt around 12, second degree 2 years later. Graduated top of his high school class, with many awards and scholarships. Just finished his bachelor in music Tennessee. He's an Allstar, I'm very happy and proud of you sensei Chris!

During this season of colds, flus and general getting sick. I wanted to remind everyone that you can miss a karate day if you/your child is feeling unwell. If they have something that is lingering cough or sneeze please talk to your child to either wear a mask, cough into elbow, or the other friendly ways of not sharing potential germs with the class.

The general makeup for missed classes is, that you have up to a month to come to an extra class. Saterday is a great option having 2 classes back to back which accept all ages.

Hello to all my wonderful students and families. I have a major life event that is happening starting next week. I'm going to cancel classes to take care of my self and my family for the week. I will also be asking a couple of our excellent sensei`s to help out the dojo a bit more for the near future.

Since I'm closing some classes with short notice I'm going to open up a 12 noon class on Saturday for the next two weekends to catch up on some missed classes.

Tomorrow only will be a special parade practice we will meet at the dojo at 11 am and go to the Prarie path to practice. All are welcome.

Please bring outdoor shoes this week to karate we will try to practice outside on the Prarie path of the weather permits. We will meet inside this week and decide to go out after everyone gets to class.

4th of July parade is coming up quick. If I didn't personally invite you yet this counts as your invitation to join us. Parents and students current or former are welcome to walk with us.

We will have a uniform of a Joe's dojo karate t shirt. The new one is a gray shirt with a classic red white and blue logo. It costs $15 is being made by one of our karate families, so we are asking that you sign up on our participation form to try to get a couple last minute shirts made. Students should be wearing gi pants or shorts if the temperature is over 85 on the 4th. Students must wear athletic shoes that they can walk, run, and jump kick in. No sandals this is a safety concern.

The day of we will meet at the dojo at 930am, then walk to the parking lot at about 10-1020am we will know which lot the day of the event. The dojo will be open an at 9 am, be locked while we are marching and opened back up when we finish. If you have students 7 years old or younger please have at least 1 adult accompany them for the parade.

We will have a truck that will hold water, candy, extra weapons, and participants that would like a break. What will the students be doing, mostly spinning weapons, and showing off their karate skills. We will be handing out karate flyers to parade viewers, throwing candy from the back of the karate truck, and have some parents or older students holding kick shields for people to hit or kick.

Please bring extra water bottles or Gatorade for yourself that we can label and have for you in the truck.

This year will be my 25 year anniversary of becoming a karate student so we will have a trial offered to all new or returning students. $25 for a new karate shirt and a new white belt.

Just a reminder we have Minecraft tonight from 6-9 pm $25 if you would like to get a last minute date night going. We will have the kids play real life Minecraft, while you have some alone time.

This coming Saturday will be summer fest. We will be open for regular classes, but Ardmore and park are closed for the fun event. Please plan on coming early so you have enough time to find a parking space.

Also Liam's sparing and conditioning class is going to move to Wednesday nights at 8 pm. This class is $10 per class, it is ment for people that love sparing and kickboxing, and want to get an amazing workout.
