Happy Birthday to Megan Silva Schultz! Megan started for Yellow Jackets all four seasons at Randolph-Macon, tallying up over 2k points, 700 assists, and 446 steals. Megan was a 3x ODAC player of the year and All-American, and helped lead the Yellow Jackets to an NCAA Championship appearance in 2005. HBD, Megan Schultz!

Remembering Olympic swim coach Ray Bussard on his birthday. Bussard coached the University of Tennessee's swim team for 21 seasons, from 1968 to 1989. In his time there, he won 8 SEC championships and lead the Vols to a NCAA Swimming Championship in 1978. He also coach the US Swim team in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.

From a recent Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Interview Series & Podcast, featuring New York Jets defensive lineman Jalyn Holmes, Holmes discussed forming his foundation Vaughn’s Way in honor of his stepfather Vaughn Parker, who struggled with mental illness before taking his own life in 2023. Holmes discussed how he is using his platform as an NFL player to create a safe space for those struggling with their own mental health & wellness.

2024 Olympic Gold Medalist in the Men's 100M Sprint, Noah Lyles was a finalist in our 2015 Student-Athlete Achievement Awards!

Lyles was a star student, community member, and student-athlete at T.C. Williams High School, now Alexandria City High School. He is now a World and Olympic Champion! Alexandria City Public Schools

As the second week of Olympic play begins and more gold medals begin to roll in, here’s a peek at our own gold medal! 2011 class inductee Jeff Rouse’s 1996 gold medal from Atlanta! Jeff won Gold as captain of the US Swim team in both 100m Backstroke and 4x100 medley relay. From Episode 79, 2014 inductee LaTasha Colander Oly, takes us back to the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where she ran the anchor leg for the gold medal winning 4x400m relay team. She did not know about being selected for the anchor leg until minutes before the race, but everything leading up to the games had prepared her for that moment.

On a recent edition of the Interview Series & Podcast, Will Driscoll caught up with Dominion Energy Charity Classic Tournament Director, Steve Schoenfeld. The DECC tees off 11-weeks from today at the Country Club of Virginia and will feature a star-studded field in the first event of the PGA Champions Tour playoffs. While the tournament is October 18-20, the entire week is filled with events and activations that elevate its profile in RVA and throughout the Commonwealth.

Thank you to WAVY TV 10 for highlighting our recent exhibit updates in Virginia Beach. We have used our exhibits on the Tour in Town Center of Virginia Beach, and the display case at the Virginia Beach Sports Center to feature some of our Olympic Inductees. One of the hardest hitters on the gridiron, Poindexter was the heart of UVA's defense, earning himself 1st Team ACC honors three times and 1st Team All-American honors twice. Happy Birthday to gymnast Hope Spivey! She represented the USA in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. Following the Olympics, Spivey went to the University of Georgia, where she would dominate for the Bulldogs. Spivey finished her time at Georgia with 27 perfect 10s, which at the time was an NCAA record. HBD, Hope!
