Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the American Red Cross is offering immediate financial assistance for those who need help recovering and whose primary residences were destroyed or sustained eligible damage as a result of the 2023 California storms and floods.

To be eligible for Red Cross immediate financial assistance, households must apply for the program and must meet all the following requirements:
- Applicant’s pre-disaster primary residence (renter or homeowner) is located in a confirmed disaster-impacted geographic area.
- Applicant is the head of household and not listed on any other Red Cross assistance application related to the California storms and floods.
- Applicant’s primary residence was destroyed or suffered eligible structural damage.
- Eligible damage is indicated by significant structural damage to a residence that requires extensive repairs. This may include substantial failure of the roof, walls, or foundation, or a water line above 18 inches.
- A residence that is destroyed is one that is a total loss or with damage so extensive that repair is not feasible.
- Primary applicant’s identity and proof of residence details were verified.

For more information, call 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767).

Jesse Shields, a tree trimmer in Porterville, was forced from his home by the torrential rains and the floods that followed in March. Shelters remain open in Tulare County as people in some communities still can’t go home because their neighborhoods are cut off by rising rivers.

A warm meal and a safe roof over your head are what people need. Shields has been staying at the American Red Cross shelter at Porterville College for more than a week. “I’m really thankful,” he said about the accommodations. And he also commented about the meals, “the food has been great. I really appreciate it.” We're honored to help. ⛑️

Today is Pearl Harbor Day of Remembrance. Today we remember the over 2,400 U.S. military members and civilians souls lost on December 7, 1941. The attack on Pear Harbor only lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes, but we will forever remember the lives we lost and the events leading us into World War II.
