FOCUS LIKE A 5 YEAR OLD

Nithin is a rockstar in our Lil Ninja classes, keeping his Eyes 👀, Mind 🧠, and Body 💪 On Target at all times!

He’s even started loosening up a bit and giving us a smile every now and then 😁😂

Nithin embodies what it means to be a Leader - Showing others how to act and behave - and that’s helped him stand out among our Budo Warriors ⚔️

Keep up the great work, Nithin! We’re looking forward to a great Budo Journey with you 🙏

Reaching new heights 📈

Milo moved up to the 6-8 year old class a few months ago and it’s been a little rocky

At first he was scared of the bigger class, then he had trouble finding his place as a leader

But today today he was really able able to hit his stride!!

Not only was showing everyone how to hit their focus positions and listen to directions, but he was working hard during bag work to get stronger 💪💪

Great job dude!

I'm sure we'll be back!

The BEST word that describes our Budo Family of martial artists & athletes!

"ANTI-FRAGILE"

WE IMPROVE AND THRIVE IN CHAOS, WHEN THINGS ARE HARD💪

Reese’s STRUGGLE turned into STRENGTH 💪

Reese started Budo in our Lil Ninja 🥷 program about 9 months ago.

Back in January, she turned 6, which at Budo means she got to move up into our 6-8yr old program!

While this change is exciting, it can also be nerve racking and cause fear and anxiety 😬 to set in…

When it was time for Reese to take her first 6-8yr old class, she was very nervous and even decided to sit out and watch instead of participating.

Eventually, though, she found her strength and jumped into class!

Now, a few more weeks in, she’s consistently making new friends and getting stronger in the new class 🔥

Last night she was even one of the biggest contributors during one of our “mat chats” with 30 other kids in the room 😱

It’s amazing watching the growth that happens when kids are challenged and supported at the same time. Thank you Reese for leading by example and showing us what it means to be a leader!

Another step 🦶 in the journey…

Last night, Dylan took his first 1️⃣ teen class!

Dylan’s been with Budo for about 3 years now and has climbed the ranks, overcoming obstacles and building up his confidence.

He used to struggle with self-esteem and believing he could do hard things…

Now, he searches for challenges, and the teen class is the perfect stepping stone to continue doing just that 💪

He gets to attack new challenges 🔥 with new partners and continue to grow stronger each and every class.

Great work last night, Dylan, and many more teen classes to come!

Budo takes over Dominic's Pizza & Restaurant!!

Shoutout to the Budo Fam for coming out with us tonight to support an amazing local business 🙏

If you’ve never had their pizza 🍕 you’re missing out!

What are some of your favorite local businesses we can support and take over next?!?!

How Carlo turned FEAR into FOCUS 🔥

When Carlo started at Budo, he was scared to play a lot of our games due to a fear of losing. He didn’t want to be seen as “not as good” as the other kids, so why even try 🤷‍♂️

He would regularly ask to sit out because he thought he wouldn’t be good enough…

Yesterday, we played a game called Snake 🐍 in the Grass. Carlo used to struggle with this game a lot because he thought he wasn’t fast enough to win.

When it was time to start playing, Carlo was LOCKED IN 🔒 and so focused that he earned the right to be one of the first snakes when we started the game 💪

He was Bear 🐻 Walking with purpose and tagging everyone in sight!

Stacking these wins has helped him build the confidence to try new things even if he’s not so good at them at first. Then, work hard to get better each time he tries 🙌

Carlo still has his struggles with losing and not wanting to try due to that fear, but we’re so excited to watch these moments of growth for him where he shines ✨ and proves to himself that he can do hard things!

Great job Carlo!

Want to learn the key 🔑 to building confidence??

Read to the end to see how we apply it in class ⬇️

Amaya (shown in the picture) was struggling 😡 today because she couldn’t get out from underneath her partner while drilling a Mount escape.

She needed to Bump hard and fast to get her partner off-balance, then immediately lift her hips up and roll to get out.

After multiple attempts, Amaya couldn’t find the timing to roll her partner before she got her balance back…

After a few more tries and a couple of coaching cues, she was able to find that moment and execute the escape!

Not only did she get it once, but when she understood that critical moment when she needed to roll, she was able to move at the right time consistently for the next few reps 💪

Those small wins over time add up and lead to BIG confidence!

Show some love to her in the comments for pushing herself through that challenging moment 🔥

🙌 JAXON’S ORIGIN STORY ❤️

🤩 Despite the fears and anxiety of trying something new, Jaxon tapped into his courage, and trusted himself to take that first step onto the mat and into class last week.

Now a week later he is brimming with pride for not only pushing past FEAR, but also for EARNING his way to White Belt thru applying DISCIPLINE 💪🏽

❤️ We are thrilled to see your confidence grow in such a short time Jaxon💪🏽

And we are grateful for the opportunity to continue working with you on your journey to self discovery and personal growth with our Budo Family 🙏🏽❤️

I first heard this quote from Conor McGregor and since then it’s really stuck with me.

When I first tested for my Black Belt 🥋 at age 13, I was talented. My skills were solid and I would step up to the plate when it was game time!

There was something missing, though…

The hard work 🤔

Don’t get me wrong, I worked hard in class and had an eagerness to learn every time I was on the mat.

However, that same eagerness didn’t show in the things I didn’t want to do…I was arrogant and lacked discipline.

I thought I could get by with my raw talent and skills alone, but boy was I wrong! The work that hadn’t been done caught up to me.

Failing my first attempt at Black Belt is one of, if not the, best things to ever happen to me!

It showed me my weaknesses and flaws, then challenged me to improve upon them; to turn my weaknesses into strengths 💪

I was disappointed, frustrated, but ultimately the goal remained the same: strive for excellence.

I hadn’t achieved anywhere near my potential because I hadn’t put in the requisite work.

Once I finally learned that lesson, I knew I wasn’t going to let anything stand in my way of achieving the goal. I was going to be disciplined and focus on EVERYTHING I could do, not just the things I wanted to do.

Now it’s your turn 🫵 tell me a story about how you realized that your current level of effort wasn’t enough, and that it would take you rising to another level to achieve to goal you set out for.

GIRL POWER 👊💥

A question we get asked ALL the time is “are there a lot of girls in your classes?”

Why, yes there are 😎

And a lot of the time they’re more focused and badass than the boys 😉

(Sorry boys 😅)

So this one’s for the girls who show up, put the work in 💪, get sweaty, and grow stronger!

Gimme your best girl power gif in the comments, Fam 👇

Check out these young warriors ⚔️ and how they’re learning to CONQUER challenges versus simply surviving 👇

Orion, Swayam, Oliver, and Elliot recently started their training with us 💪

After their first class, they learned that we all start our journey with a challenge to ACHIEVE something.

By completing tasks like cleaning up their rooms and toys, making their bed, holding doors for others, and more, they’re building habits that build their discipline and ability to WORK and take ACTION 💥 towards their goals!

To earn their White Belts 🥋 they took on the challenge of 10 Respectful Deeds or Self-Discipline actions to EARN their first belt and kickoff their journey 🔥

Let’s give them a big congratulations 👏 and welcome in the comments ⬇️

DANGEROUS…to bad guys 👊

Imagine your child getting bullied…called names, pushed around, and made to think they’re worthless.

How would you feel? Would you want your child to do something about it?

Of course you would 🙏

That’s why our students train to be DANGEROUS to bad guys so that they can be the superhero we know they can be!

As they say, it’s better to be a warrior ⚔️ in a garden than a gardener 🪴 in a war.

Here’s one of our best tools for creating peaceful warriors ⬇️

Budo’s 3 Lines of Defense and Safety!

1️⃣ Awareness

2️⃣ Use Your Words

3️⃣ Use Your Budo Skills

First, we try to avoid danger by being situationally aware and trusting our intuition.

If that doesn’t work, we use our words to try to deescalate the situation by talking to the bad guy/bully, or getting an adult involved if we can’t manage it ourselves.

Lastly, if that doesn’t work and we feel like we’re in danger ⚠️, we’re allowed to use our Budo skills - push away danger - in order to get home safely!

Here’s the great thing ➡️ once the bad guy is no longer a threat, we STOP and get away with as little damage to anyone as possible.

Parents, type YES in the comments if you want to know more about how we teach kids to stand up for themselves 💪

Challenge #1: CONQUERED ✅

The White Belt 🥋 is the most important belt in Martial Arts. It represents the beginning of a great journey and taking a leap of faith into a world 🌎 of trials and tribulations.

Always testing yourself and always trying to achieve new heights, Martial Arts is one of the most rewarding 😍 things a person can partake in because of the hard work and dedication it takes to achieve excellence!

It’s always an honor to present a new students with their White Belt, especially because at Budo they’re starting out with a WIN 🔥, truly earning that belt through demonstrating OFF of the may some of the important values we teach ON the mat 🙏

Show some love for these 3 in the comments below!

Thank you Nithin (on the left) for setting the example by practicing respect and team work with your classmates🙏🏽💪🏽

Are you sabotaging your kids?

The answer may surprise you…so read till the end ⬇️

Everyone wants the best for their kids; of course! Sometimes what’s best for them, though, doesn’t make them happy in moment.

We all know consistency is the key 🔑 to improvement, but it’s also the key to establishing habits.

One habit we instill in your kids from their first day at Budo is discipline. The way we do that is by making them carry their own bag and binder - mom and dad are NOT ALLOWED to carry them 😉

By enforcing that they carry “their” stuff, they learn a sense of responsibility 💪 and that it’s not always fun, even though being responsible is important.

Yes, it’s annoying at first. They’ll whine and complain, ask you to carry their stuff, etc.

But what you’ll find is that, after some time, they’ll just start carrying their stuff. The expectation is set, and when it’s followed through with, your kids will catch on.

That’s the power of CONSISTENCY 🙌

You all wants your kids to be disciplined, but it starts with you 🫵 Be disciplined FOR them so they can pick up on your example and follow-through.

What is one area you’d like to improve being disciplined and consistent yourself in order to help your kids do the same?
