Next up on our upcoming events is The Everyone Loves Women’s Sports Party! Join us for a day party at All Purpose Pizza on the Riverfront for March Madness themed cocktails and a chance to honor and celebrate all of the athletes in the Washington Coalition of Women’s Professional Sports including the Washington Spirit, the Washington Mystics, the DC Divas and DC Shadow.

We will also have drink specials featuring Gray Wolf Spirits. Gray Wolf® craft distilling was founded in 2016 by husband and wife, R.B. Wolfensberger and Meghan Brown, and is a boutique Maryland distillery dedicated to handcrafting spirits using premium, intentionally selected, raw ingredients.

The event is on the rooftop at All Purpose Pizza on the Riverfront, and is a first-come, first-served event. Jerseys highly recommended.

Every year, fewer than 2 percent of collegiate athletes will continue on to play in a professional league. Even fewer are the moments of electricity that take your breath away, where seasons come down to a combination of controlled chaos & a matter of milliseconds & anything can happen.

In 2019, the 2 time champions Stanford Cardinal would go against 21 time champs & legendary program in college soccer - the University of North Carolina Tarheels. After full time & 2 overtimes, the game is still 0-0 bringing on penalty kicks.

First kick of the PKs & first kick for North Carolina blocked by Katie Meyer. Future USWNT star Cat Macario steps in for Stanford & scores. Back & forth goals until the Tarheels goalkeeper blocks Stanford’s fourth kick to tie it at 3-3. Both teams make their fifth kicks, the score is 4-4 & moves into Sudden Death. Tarheels kick first, Katie Meyer in goal. It’s a dinky kick, Meyer guesses the correct side to dive to, gets the block & all of a sudden Stanford is one kick away from a win. Let us take a moment & acknowledge just how rare 1 save is in PKs let alone 2 & Katie Meyer did the unthinkable. It is for that moment that we have 2 roses in her honor. The Cardinal would score their sixth shot & go on to win their third championship in program history.

Being a goalkeeper is a difficult role, there aren’t many spots available & to be really good you have to be consistent which doesn’t always include flashy plays or goals that demonstrate your abilities, which makes the world so lucky to have had this moment from Katie Meyer & which makes the world so lucky to have had Katie Meyer.

And so in her name, may we say thank you Katie for giving us everything you had & could, we will forever be grateful for your joy, passion, talent, heart & commitment to the game & your teammates.
