Do you know your love language? Did you know that how you want to be loved especially within the realms of love languages is often how you need to take care of yourself! This means if you get mad or hate something its probably because it is in direct opposition of how you want to be loved. All of this is to say is self care starts with self love! You deserve all the love languages who better to give you that then you!

⁣⠀

Today’s Senior Reflection post is brought to you by Morgan Robinson:⠀

I’ll try to make this as short and sweet as I can, but if you know me, you know that I am full of words, most of them anxious to escape. In the most succinct way we can sum all these words up: I am a graduate. Seeing the words, nonetheless saying it, feels absolutely surreal. All of the pain, tears, bliss, and joy of the past 4 years has amounted to this fateful moment, and I couldn’t be happier. But at the same time, I can’t help but grieve the lost memories of what would have and should have been. So instead, I’m comforted by the memories of what and who Georgetown was for me. ⠀

My Georgetown experience is coupled up in the words resiliency & growth, both of which I’ve ebbed and flowed between recognizing but, for the most part, have stuck with me. I’m not the same Morgan as when I walked onto campus nearly 4 years ago, and that’s the way I want it. Someone once told me “Morgan, Georgetown is better because you were here,” so I’m leaning into that statement. And it’s acknowledging that wayback when during college decisions, coming to Georgetown was because this place needed me, not the other way around. So at the end of the day, or the end of college I should poetically say, I cherish the relationships that will continue with me and the sheer pride of achieving such a feat. Like Ms. Angelou said, I did Georgetown with a whole lot of passion, compassion, humor, and you best believe, with my own style.⠀

If you need me, I’ll be strutting across my imaginary stage on Healy Lawn. But all jokes aside, it feels great to be a graduate, y’all. Hoya Saxa.

Today's Senior Reflection is brought to you by Emily Greffenius:⠀

When I look back over my time at Georgetown, I tend to see it in fragments, separated by the different groups and people I got to meet and be a part of. The mental health advocates with Active Minds, the literature nerds from The Anthem, the teachers and other students in the English Department, the friends from my freshman floor in Darnall. I think of each of these groups as distinct from one another, but all so important in their building of my four years on the Hilltop.⠀

Italo Calvino, a famous Italian author, writes that we are all a combination of many things, our experiences, our memories. And he’s right. Each of these pieces of Georgetown came together to not only create college for me, but to create who I am today. I wouldn’t be where I am without the plethora of experiences, information, and people I found at Georgetown. I’ll always carry that with me.

Open Letter to Survivors

Dear Survivors,

We hope that this letter finds you as well as can be during such trying times. Since suffering and uncertainty should not be a part of the human condition, we won’t say we hope that you are adapting to the “new normal”. Rather, we hope that you are taking it one day at a time, taking time to celebrate the small wins and allowing patience as you figure things out.

Usually in April we plan lots of events and campaigns to celebrate your strength, bravery, and triumphs. This April we are not so fortunate. Nevertheless, we want to take time to give space to your survivorship.

WE see you. WE see your smile in the brightness of the sun. WE see your tears in the April showers. WE see your strength in the trunks of old trees. WE feel your gentle nature in the spring breeze. WE hear your voices as loud as thunder. WE see your battle in winding roads. WE see your successes in the blossoming of each flower. We see YOU.

Wishing you peace and love,
Georgetown University Health Education Services & SAPE

This week's posts on social wellness are brought to you by Lisbeth Medina '21 and Andy Turner '20 .jt84

While you may be practicing social distancing, you are not alone. Practicing social wellness enhances your ability to tackle adversity and tough challenges. You can practice social wellness by spending time connecting with your support system through text, calls, emails, or video calls. This may include group FaceTime calls, virtual book clubs, video workout sessions, or Netflix watch parties! While connecting with friends, focus the conversation on gratitude, celebrating each other’s milestones, and offering support to each other.

Remember, it is okay to disconnect and recharge! Do not feel guilty for taking a break from socializing or social media.

Hello from Health Education Services,

We at Health Ed recognize the impact that COVID-19 is having on everyone in the Georgetown community. We hope that you have been able to seek safety and comfort through these challenging times.

COVID-19 is forcing people to change plans and things are dynamic. We will try to keep up to date with things you need to know about the current situation and some things to think about.During this transition, Health Education Services will be suspending the following services:

In-person health and wellness programming
Walk-in appointments
In-person counseling sessions

In lieu of in-person meetings, these virtual appointments will allow you to check-in with a clinician via Zoom. A check-in meeting will offer you:

The ability to ask questions, do planning around safety needs, get connected to needed resources and talk through any needed advocacy.
A chance to stay connected to your GU support systems, even when not able to meet in person.
(**Please note, this is not to be considered a counseling session, rather a way for us to stay connected during a time that we know is very stressful and challenging. We want to remain here for you in the ways we are able.)

If you are interested in scheduling a check-in meeting, here are the best ways to contact us:

For Interpersonal Violence (sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking) concerns: email the SARP team at [email protected].
For sexual health, nutrition and eating disorders: email Carol Day at [email protected].
For alcohol and drug related concerns: email Patrick Kilcarr at [email protected].

TLDR: Health Ed is offering check-in meetings via Zoom. Contact information above.
