“The Gabr Fellowship is a crash course on how to become a globally minded leader. The curriculum that Chairman Mr. Gabr designed, empowers his fellows through exclusive settings, content, and contacts in the arts, science, law, media, politics, business, and entrepreneurship. I feel honored to have participated in this fellowship so early in my career; it shifted my understanding of what I can achieve and cultivated my global mindset. We are living in a highly interconnected world surrounded by problems that take cooperative, collective action, by globally minded leaders to solve, and I know this fellowship and the genuine friendships I formed with emerging leaders, were the first steps towards finding comprehensive solutions.”

"The Gabr Fellowship has changed the trajectory of my entire life in so many positive ways - I am more confident, I have greater clarity into what I want to achieve in my professional life, and I feel more equipped to push harder towards my greatest dreams! Engaging directly with business leaders, government officials, and artists from Egypt and the United States has given me the opportunity to learn more and intellectually wrestle with key issues - social, political and economic - that are and will be affecting our societies in the next 30 years. I left the program alongside 19 emerging leaders who I now can call my friends. Together we are stronger in making our dent in the universe within each of our respective fields”.

“This fellowship transformed my personal and professional development. The program is designed to encourage a free exchange of perspectives, which cultivated an atmosphere of openness between all of the fellows. As a result, we got to know each other in a deeper way than one might expect, building lifelong friendships, and we all were forced to think critically about our preconceptions about each other's cultures. The Gabr Fellowship is a model for cultural exchange programs, and I believe each and every alumnus will leverage their experience to forge a better, safer, and more cohesive world.”

Mr Shafik Gabr, Chairman of The Shafik Gabr Foundation, said on the night, “This initiative that I am very proud to be associated with is an initiative that I believe is so critical of this time, because I fear that we are getting more and more disengaged. Yes, we are communicating twenty-four seven with our great tools, but we don’t know each other.”

Artwork of the week: 'The Favorite' by Frederick Arthur Bridgman, 1882. Oil on canvas.

During a trip to Algiers in the 1880’s, Bridgman gained access to a local widow’s home where he was able to set up his easel on a terrace and observe the daily life of the house and the traffic on the street. The intimate access into a local home was unusual, as Westerners were typically not allowed into the women’s quarters. 'The favorite' is longingly looking towards the open portico, passing the hours until her master returns home. Her rich garments and jewelry, the tiger skin at her feet as well as the ivory-encrusted chair, show her status as a prized possession of the local potentate. The jewel-like rendering of the fabrics are a tour de force for Bridgman and pay homage to his master Gérôme.
