NEWS RELEASE โ December 10, 2022โ Local nonprofit lender Accion was awarded a $714,000 grant from the U.S. Department of the Treasuryโs Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI). The CDFI Fund uses federal resources to invest in local lenders to build capacity to serve low-income people and communities that lack access to affordable financial products and services.
In total, the organization has won nearly $7 million in federal funding in the nine times it has received the award since 1998. The fund will be used for loan capital, which will be deployed in the four counties that Accion serves: Imperial, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego.
The Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) promotes economic revitalization in distressed communities throughout the United States by providing financial assistance and information to community development financial institutions (CDFI). An agency of the United States Department of the Treasury, it was established through the Riegle Community Development and Regulatory Improvement Act of 1994.[1] Financial institutions, which may include banks, credit unions, loan funds, and community development venture capital funds, can apply to the CDFI Fund for formal certification as a CDFI. there were 747 certified CDFIs in the U.S. The CDFI Fund offers a variety of financial programs to provide capital to CDFIs, such as the Financial Assistance Program, Technical Assistance Program, Bank Enterprise Award Program, and the New Markets Tax Credit Program.[2]
