This National Immunization Awareness Month we celebrate the members of our award-winning Aging and Disability Vaccination Collaborative (ADVC)! The ADVC partners with AAAs, Centers for Independent Living and other trusted community-based organizations nationwide to help older adults, people with disabilities and caregivers get flu, COVID-19 and other needed vaccines.
Over the past year, our incredible ADVC members have held creative, fun events in their communities and helped people understand the need for these life-saving vaccines. And theyāve administered thousands of COVID, flu and other vaccines to help the people most vulnerable to serious illness stay safe and healthy. šššš

Over a quarter of adults age 50+ provided care to at least one family member or friend who has a health issue or disability in the past year, according to new data from the U-M National Poll on Healthy Aging. The most common health issue or disability that caregivers helped their friends or family with was a physical disability or mobility challenge. https://ow.ly/Gtok50SXbsH

šUSAgingās Aging and Disability Vaccination Collaborative (ADVC) has been awarded the 2024 Immunization Neighborhood Champion Award by the National Adult and Influenza Immunization Summit! š
This award recognizes ADVC's efforts in increasing vaccination rates among older adults and people with disabilities nationwide. Since May 2023, ADVC partners have administered over 378,000 COVID-19 and flu vaccines, as well as 112,000 other vaccines and provided 441,000 supportive services like transportation and appointment assistance. https://ow.ly/PTEU50SZm29

A new tip sheet, from USAgingās partners at the Grandfamilies & Kinship Support Network, offers guidance on finding affordable and no-cost childcare for children in kinship/grandfamilies. Childcare can provide kin caregivers with needed respite.
According to a 2022 topical poll conducted by USAging for the Network, 26 percent of AAA and Title VI program respondents face a major challenge to their ability to support more kinship/grandfamilies due to the lack of available childcare when kin caregivers are receiving support. https://ow.ly/9OEj50SXbgs

Watch the latest Grandfamilies & Kinship Support Network webinar for fundraising tips to support kinship/grandfamilies. Presenters offered adviceāincluding tips for small nonprofitsāon cultivating donors and applying for foundation-based and corporate grants. They also gave examples of federal grants (beyond OAA) that can be used to support kinship/grandfamilies and provided strategies for tracking and applying for federal grants.
