Today marks , highlighting the ongoing struggle for equal pay for equal work. Black women shouldn't have to wait another two centuries for pay equity, yet the latest data from IWPR indicate that it will take over 200 years—until 2227—for Black women’s pay to equal that of White men for full-time, year-round workers. For pay equity across all earnings, it will take until 2362.

On the second anniversary of the Dobbs decision and the overturn of Roe v. Wade, we reflect on the harmful impact it has had on women and families. IWPR data show these bans not only reduce women's participation in the workforce but also lead to significant wage losses, harming their economic stability and the financial security of their families. Learn more: https://iwpr.org/2024-analysis-costs-of-reproductive-health-restrictions/

📢 NEW from IWPR:
Ahead of the second anniversary of the overturn of Roe v. Wade, new data from IWPR reveals that state abortion bans are costing the US economy $68 billion annually. These bans reduce workforce participation among women, leading to a significant loss in wages and economic power for women and their families.
Since the overturn, restrictive bans have disproportionately harmed Black, Latina, low-income, young, and rural women, as well as LGBTQ+ individuals. This not only impacts women’s economic opportunities but also businesses and state economies. Read the latest: https://iwpr.org/2024-analysis-costs-of-reproductive-health-restrictions/
On Day, we shed light on the economic struggles of the LGBTQIA+ community. Over 1 in 3 LGBTQIA+ households earned less than $30K in 2022. It's time to break the cycle of poverty and discrimination. 🏳️🌈💪 https://iwpr.org/the-lgbtqia-community-needs-more-than-equal-pay/
June 13 is LGBTQIA+ Equal Pay Awareness Day. In 2021, LGBTQIA+ workers earned 90 cents for every dollar earned by their straight/cisgender peers. Discrimination and harassment worsen this gap. Recent Census Pulse data show 17.94% of LGBTQIA+ individuals reported income loss vs. 13.07% non-LGBTQIA+. Everyone deserves workplace equality. Yesterday marked a devastating blow to reproductive rights in Florida. The state's six-week abortion ban has pushed access to abortion care to the brink.
Come November, Floridians will have the final say. The same day the six-week abortion ban was upheld, the court also green-lit a ballot initiative that would enshrine the right to reproductive health freedom in the state constitution to go before voters.

"As we think about the solutions when it comes to addressing the Black maternal health crisis, we have to deal with systemic racism in this country, both in the context of the healthcare system as well as in broader society,” says Dr. Jamila K. Taylor, President and CEO of IWPR.
Together, let's unite in solidarity to address disparities, confront systemic challenges, and work towards a future where every Black mother receives the care and support they deserve during pregnancy and childbirth.
Black maternal health is in a state of emergency in the United States. The US has the highest rate of maternal mortality of wealthy nations, and although rates have skyrocketed over the last two decades for all women, Black women are around 3x more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than White women.

As we mark Black Maternal Health Week this April 11-17, it's crucial to confront the dire state of Black maternal health in the United States. Despite higher education levels, AANHPI women earned only 92.7 cents per dollar compared to White men in 2022, dropping to 80.1 cents with part-time work. In Mississippi, it's a staggering 51.3 cents. Even in California, home to the largest AANHPI population, the gap persists at 79 cents.
