Arnold & Porter represented Cognizant (NASDAQ: CTSH) in its proposed acquisition of Belcan, LLC, for consideration totaling approximately $1.3 billion, subject to customary adjustments, in the form of cash and stock. The parties expect the deal to close in the third quarter of 2024, subject to regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.

The multidisciplinary, international Arnold & Porter team included attorneys across numerous practice areas, including corporate and finance, government contracts, tax, litigation, labor and employment, intellectual property, anti-corruption and export controls, antitrust, cybersecurity, and real estate.

Join us in welcoming Matthew Micheli back to Arnold & Porter. Micheli has rejoined the firm as a partner in our Bankruptcy and Restructuring practice, resident in Chicago. His arrival builds upon the Chicago office’s continued growth, which in the last five years has added 16 new partners and counsel, including the promotion of three partners, and now consists of over 50 attorneys.

A former senior associate at the firm, Micheli has broad experience across a range of complex restructurings, debt financing, and distressed M&A matters. He also has first-chair experience on both lender-side and company-side engagements at various levels in the capital structure through out-of-court restructurings and in chapter 11 restructurings across the U.S. In addition, he spent several years as a corporate executive and draws on those years of business and operational experience to advise his clients.

Managing IP recognized 21 Arnold & Porter lawyers as “IP Stars” and “notable practitioners” in its 2024 IP STARS rankings. IP STARS ranks senior practitioners who are leaders in intellectual property, taking into account expertise, workload, and outcomes achieved for clients.

The publication also named Deborah Fishman to their “Top 250 Women in IP” list, which recognizes female IP practitioners who “performed exceptionally for their clients and firms in the past year.” Fishman focuses her practice on intellectual property, with a particular emphasis on biopharmaceutical and medical device patent litigation, and has been routinely recognized for her strategic case management and vast expertise. This is the fifth time that Fishman has been named to this list.

The 200,000-square-foot pre-lease at the former Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) headquarters at Judiciary Square was the biggest private-sector deal in the District of Columbia since 2019 and kick-started the building's US$375 million renovation and expansion.

Stop Food Waste Day is a global awareness day dedicated to reducing food waste through education and action. In addition to sharing tips on how to minimize food waste, Georgina also hosted a MasterChef-style invention test, which challenged the group to create a recipe based on surplus food items that The Felix Project could reheat and serve to its community organizations.
