Some people believe 'Treat others the way you want to be treated,' which is great, but sometimes what you like isn’t what someone else likes… or needs!
Hugs always cheer me up, but my friend doesn’t like hugging. So if she had a bad day, I’d use the Platinum Rule: “Treat others the way they want to be treated!” She likes to go on bike rides to cheer up, so I’d ask if she wanted to do that! 😊
Thursday, June 20 American Humanist Association and Washington Ethical Society are hosting Dr. Anthony Pinn to share his latest book "The Black Practice of Disbelief" (which will be available for purchase along with other books). Join in person or online: https://bit.ly/BlackHumanism24
Love a metaphor with pizza 😋
I believe in treating people the way THEY want to be treated! We calls this the Platinum Rule.
"We at the American Humanist Association work together with people and groups of various faiths to ensure that our secular government is defended and encouraged. Our partners of faith know that Christian nationalism will hurt the ability for people of faith to freely practice as they see fit as well as for humanists to live freely, and that it therefore needs to be stopped in its tracks."

This four session course, taught by Dr. Mark Reimers, will survey empirical evidence about the psychological and social factors that lead people to double down on dogmas and delusions. We will discuss the personality characteristics and life circumstances that lead many people to hold rigid beliefs. We'll consider why some people have serious delusions and why most of us hold some everyday delusions about our life stories. We'll discuss how and why some people commit to a shared delusion with an ideological group. Finally we'll consider the psychology of engaging in joint reasoning with other people, how people come to change their dogmatic opinions, and discuss practical strategies to encourage conversation across ideological divides.

Free virtual event happening Wednesday! Mark your calendars! Join us on Oct. 4 from 6:30-8 p.m. ET for a discussion with American literary historian, Stephen Greenblatt, where we'll explore the early history of religious intolerance. How did the West get from religious freedom of choice to compulsion? How did religious ideology go from loving friendship to violent persecution? How could murder in the name of God — an act virtually inconceivable in the Greek and Roman world over the numberless centuries of their existence — ever have been justified, let alone justified in the name of the God of love?
Join us on Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 6:30-8 p.m. Eastern Time for a free, virtual event where we'll explore these questions and more. We'll be joined by American literary historian Stephen Greenblatt who will help guide us through the early history of religious intolerance.
Though this virtual (Zoom) event is free, registration is required. You can learn more and sign up here: https://americanhumanist-org.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_C0hqvDD4SNGeG_Jo7-MGlg #/registration
