Catholic Charities SHARE Food Network offers nutritious and affordable groceries every month to anyone in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. In August, we are offering a value grocery package for $25, which includes five pounds of chicken drumsticks, a pound of beef tips, a pound of ground turkey, and eight to 10 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables. For our specials, we are offering a crab boil box for $36, which includes two pounds of red crab claw clusters, a pound of shrimp, two pounds of whole blue crabs and almost a pound of kielbasa. We are continuing our “school’s out special”, which includes breaded chicken patties, personal cheese pizza, fish sticks, beef hotdogs and sweet potato fries for $25.
Orders will be received beginning Monday, August 12. Order distribution will be on August 23 and 24.

The Seeds of Hope Community Garden at the Southern Maryland Food Bank is thriving. Thanks to our dedicated master gardener volunteers and community support, we've already harvested over 300 pounds of fresh, organic produce. The Southern Maryland Food Bank's Meals & Hope food truck greeted a long line of vehicles yesterday for a special lunchtime meal distribution at Lifestream Church of the Nazarene- Waldorf, MD. Thank you to the volunteers, including employees from M&T Bank, who greeted those seeking food and handed out bags filled with lunches. The food truck has regular distributions bringing meals to food deserts in the Southern Maryland region and to those facing food insecurity.
Our SHARE Food Network brings lower-cost groceries to many people across D.C. and Maryland and provides food packages for our free distributions. We are indebted to the volunteers who help make this happen. That includes employees from KPMG, who this week spent their company's "Community Impact Day" packaging food in preparation for SHARE deliveries. Thank you to the crew who volunteered their time with us.
To celebrate the end of the summer program at the Kennedy School, staff and students enjoyed a field trip to the local Dave and Buster’s. From arcade games to cheering on Team USA in the Paris Olympics, our students and staff made some fun-filled memories together. As the summer nears its end, our students and staff are eagerly anticipating the new school year in September. Let's make the most of these final days before hitting the books again!
Thank you to CORDIALSA USA for another generous donation of chocolate-covered marshmallows, whole wheat crackers and other delicious items. These donations will be shared with the people we serve through the Montgomery County Choice Food Pantry and Newcomer Network programs.
Residents at the Harriet Tubman Women’s Shelter practiced self-care during The Community Salon event. Residents had the opportunity to try on various wigs and have their eyebrows cared for.
This event was organized by Catholic Charities’ intern Trenice Wells, who spent time working with the shelter residents through the Peer Case Management Institute.

Congratulations to Katie Ledecky, the most decorated U.S. female Olympian! We have been fans and supporters from before her first medal to this week's 13th.
To celebrate , volunteers from We Are Lasagna Love donated trays of lasagna to clients at the Angel’s Watch shelter in Waldorf. Over 40 trays of the Italian meal, which were made by many volunteer chefs, provided Monday’s dinner to the 71 families residing at the shelter. The residents had a great time trying the different types of lasagna and appreciated the warm and hearty meal.

The Southern Maryland Food Bank hosted Girl Scout troop 12129 for an educational experience at the Seeds of Hope Community Garden. Master Gardeners Brent Burdick and Brian Larson guided the troop of Brownies and Daisies through the garden, showing them how to harvest cantaloupe, carrots, tomatoes, onions, yellow squash and potatoes. The girls enjoyed snacking on the fresh produce and even took home a special gardening kit complete with a planting pot, watering container and a variety of vegetable and flower seeds.

Thank you to Chaminade High School D.C. alumni for taking the time and effort to clean our Child Development Center playground to make it even more fun and inviting. The team swept the play area, pressure washed all the play equipment and planters, cleaned out the old growth from the planters and planted new plants, and leveled out the swing set area with rubber mulch. The employees and residents of Mulumba House welcomed Catholic Charities USA and staff members from individual Catholic Charities agencies across the country on Tuesday for a tour and information session about the transitional housing location and its Welcome Home Reentry Program. Attendees from Catholic Charities USA’s Prison Ministry Reentry Workgroup Conference were given a red-carpet welcome and met some of the 29 men who live at Mulumba House. Welcome Home provides mentoring, case-management services and housing to individuals returning to their communities from incarceration. “This place saves lives,” one said. “Now I have a support system that isn't just on the phone. I can sit and talk to staff here,” said another. “The help I get from the people here, I get from family. These people are family," said yet another.

Volunteers, staff and partners from Catholic Charities’ dental clinics and Mission of Mercy dental event gathered at the dental program’s annual volunteer appreciation event. New, former and soon to be volunteers got to meet with Dr. Lucciola Lambruschini, director of dental services, and District of Columbia Dental Society president, Dr. Cheryle Baptise. Attendees also had the opportunity to hear from this year’s guest speaker, Dr. Angela Noguera, a long-term volunteer with Catholic Charities.

This summer, Mondays mean game night at New York Avenue Men’s Shelter. Seven members of the St. John's College High School baseball team and their dads set out games on tables in the shelter cafeteria. Chess, Jenga, Connect Four, Backgammon and other games and activities are available as the high school students welcome some friendly competition. The volunteers also set up and serve dinner to residents. It’s a home run for all, as these bring a sense of community and caring to residents of the D.C. shelter. “I like him,” one resident proclaimed about his younger Connect Four opponent as a game concluded.

The Catholic Charities Center’s Choice Food Pantry is officially reopened in Montgomery County. The pantry is open from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 1-4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for those facing food insecurity. It is closed the week of the first Tuesday of the month. Catholic Charities Legal Network provides pro bono civil legal services to low-income families and individuals in Washington, D.C., and the surrounding Maryland counties of Montgomery, Prince George’s, Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s. This fall, become a volunteer in the network and join countless others who have helped with legal assistance.
The network also has internship opportunities this fall for law, pre-law and high school students.

We are also offering a “school’s out special”, which includes beef hotdogs, breaded chicken nuggets, french fries, turkey bologona and American cheese.

Spend your Friday on the golf course and support the 19th annual In the Name of the Mother Golf Tournament. Established in 2005 by family and friends to honor Megan McConville, all proceeds from the tournament help to provide financial aid to mothers diagnosed with cancer.
