For the last 14 years, families with private insurance have benefitted from zero-cost preventive services, one of the most popular provisions of the ACA. Today’s decision in Braidwood v. Becerra means that these services continue for 151 million people for now, but the named plaintiffs no longer have to offer these services at no cost. Uninsured rates reached an all time low in 2023, but latest projections indicate the percentage of uninsured will rise again through 2034, particularly in adults aged 19-44. attributes this increase end of Medicaid’s continuous eligibility provisions in 2023 and 2024 and the expiration of enhanced Marketplace subsidies, or APTCs, after 2025. It doesn't have to be this way! Congress could extend enhanced Marketplace subsidies or make them permanent, and ensure 12-month continuous eligibility for adults.
