REbeL at American University is a college-pilot chapter of the larger REbeL org. Mission: Changing
Founded by psychologist Dr. Laura Eickman in 2008, REbeL is a peer education program designed to address disordered eating and body images issues in teens in middle and high schools. REbeL at AU is an extension of REbeL for college-aged students. heyyyy friends!! so excited to share the plans for our first meeting of the semester :) come learn about who we are as a club, get to know our amazing and supportive club members, learn about body neutrality, and come chat with us about what it’s like to be on social media these days with our feeds constantly flooded with content glamorizing/encouraging eating disorders/disordered eating - and how we make sense of this through a lens of recovery and protecting our peace.😙 we will unpack common diet culture rhetoric AND share a bunch of our favorite accounts and creators centered around recovery, intuitive eating, body neutrality and positivity, and anti-diet vibes🎉.

To wrap up EDAW we will be hosting an Eating Disorder & Recovery Resource Workshop given by one of our very own NEDA campus warriors! Even if you haven’t personally struggled with an ED, it is important to educate everyone so that we can move toward a society where all bodies are seen and treated with kindness and respect! We have partnered with AU RecFit for a FREE body inclusive yoga class! We will be celebrating and honoring our bodies as they are! This is will place Wednesday, March 1st from 4-5pm

please join us this tuesday at 7pm in mgc 245 for our speaker event! our speaker this week is Alex from Courage to Nourish!! Courage to Nourish is an ED recovery organization comprised of dietitians and nutritionists that specialize in eating disorders.
Alex will be teaching us about the specifics of intuitive eating and how to practice/strengthen our practice of intuitive eating and getting in touch with our bodies! There will be opportunity to ask questions to an expert who is all about debunking diet culture and honoring your body, cravings, and hunger!
Also, you can get connected with Alex or someone on her team if this feels like something that might be beneficial to you!
We know that Thanksgiving is just around the corner and it can bring up difficult dynamics with food or topics surrounding dieting amongst loved ones and this meeting is a great opportunity to prepare for how we will respond to unsolicited comments, what recovery tools we will be applying, and going into the holiday feeling as strong as possible!
