Thanks to the 19 crafters who joined us today! Our icebreaker (thanks to Shana for the suggestion) was to pose with your yarn or project the way people (usually men) pose with fish on social media/dating apps đ these are our members who agreed to have their pictures/poses shared and they are fantastic. See you next on June 9th!
Speaking of Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival, you can enjoy reading about the Sheep to Shawl Competition thanks to a gift article from our member Debbie R!
Shear will: Wool goes from sheep to shawl at a beloved Maryland festival At the 51st annual Maryland Sheep and Wool festival, six teams have three hours to shear a sheep, spin the wool it into yarn, then weave those threads into a showstopping shawl.

Opinion | Knitting Helps Us Embrace Lifeâs Messy Imperfections (Gift Article) Crafters across Britain speak to how knitting can help us heal, even at our most broken.
So grateful every day to all our crafters who choose to gift their items to our partner organizations, but especially today for Volunteer EDCJCC D25, our biggest volunteer event of the year! We know the emotional investment that can come with each item:
The Emotional Gamble of a Hand-Knitted Gift Knitting scarves, sweaters and other presents can take a lot of time, money and energy. But there can also be a deeper cost: hurt feelings.
The Big Count is one of our favorite days of the entire year, when we sort and count all of the items our crafters have made all year long - this year a total of more than 1800 items! Please enjoy some photos of the fun we had â¤ď¸

We have our Handmade meetings set for early 2024! https://www.edcjcc.org/programs/handmade-for-the-homeless/
Join us THIS Sunday December 3rd for The Big Count, 9am-12:30 pm! This will be the deadline to return your items for 2023. As in past years, we ask that if you are dropping off finished items you do so by 10:30 am that day at the very latest so we have enough time to sort and count all of the beautiful items you create. You can find the registration link on our Handmade webpage via the EDCJCC website: https://www.edcjcc.org/programs/handmade-for-the-homeless/.
A reminder to please make sure your donated items are ready to be gifted (stray ends woven in, soft against the skin, clean and smelling fresh), and in dignity condition. The majority of the gifts the EDCJCC needs are adult items, but kids' items are welcome as well. For adult items, like hats and scarves, please ensure they fit (try on your hats, and make sure scarves wrap around your neck at least once). If you find your scarf is too short, you can add more length, sew the ends together to make a cowl, or connect two similar-colored ones to make a longer one! Please reach out if you have any questions.

We got a HUGE yarn donation (which co-leaders Chana and Leslie are showing off before opening) in the mail from Nevada - we appreciate it so much!
Big thanks also to our members who took yarn home today - future yarn donations are on hold until we can make more room for them.
Some things to keep in mind if you are generously giving us yarn stash:
-worsted weight or bulky yarn is the most helpful, and we unfortunately can not use novelty yarn
-please make sure your yarn is free of any pet hair and smoke
-if you are mailing yarn, please wrap it in plastic to protect it from any damage/moisture that might happen in transit!
Thanks again to everyone who has helped us grow our stash again and will do so in the future â¤ď¸
