Happy Sankranti to all those who celebrate! Makar Sankranti is a holiday celebrated in South Asia, primarily in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. It is considered to be the transition day of the Sun into the Capricorn, marking the beginning of the new harvest festival. In South India and Sri Lanka, Tamil Thai Pongal and Pongal are celebrated in a four-day festival to celebrate a bountiful harvest and the end of peak winter. The four days are Bhogi, Thai, Mattu, and Kaanum, each day signifying a different tradition and practice.
