Last week, we shared Avalon's core priorities for 2024: Connection, Belonging, and Collaboration. But there's another priority for Avalon that never changes - FUN! 🎉 We kicked off our annual retreat with a party at Allison's house, complete with lawn games and ice cream. Thanks for hosting, Allison!

🌟 The Avalon retreat in Annapolis last week was a HUGE success! We focused on core priorities for Avalon this year: Connection, Belonging, and Collaboration.

🤝 Sessions were led by our friends Jenny Phillips of JLP Strategy, Beth Ridley of Ridley Consulting Group, and our own David Wolkin. We had our favorite local photographer, Lisa Banting, on hand to document the workshops.

🌱 We're grateful for the chance to grow and develop together, and we're excited to apply what we've learned to our work at Avalon!

That's a wrap! Avalon has bid adieu to our beloved HQ downtown. We will always be grateful for the office that felt so much like it reflected our personality. It was a beautiful working space for us as a company and an exceptional meeting place for our clients and friends. Thank you to those who came to our impromptu rooftop celebration last night—we sure will miss this view!

We at IWM are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Her Majesty The Queen and would like to express our condolences to all her family.

IWM is hugely grateful to HM The Queen for the generous support and interest that she has taken in IWM during her reign and lifetime.

We would like to inform you that the Battle of Britain Air Show will continue to run as planned this weekend (Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September) but it has been decided by the Trustees and Executive Board of IWM to close our five branches on the day of HM The Queen’s state funeral, which will be announced by the Royal Family in due course. This decision was taken in consultation with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

Books of condolence are open for visitors at IWM London, HMS Belfast, IWM Duxford and IWM North. The Royal Family has opened a digital book of condolence, which can be found on their official website. Flags at IWM London, IWM Duxford and HMS Belfast are being flown at half-mast.

Today, on , we want to highlight Karina Bautista of Huerta Luna Farm — one of Galápagos Conservancy’s Women in Sustainable Entrepreneurship (WISE) grant awardees.

A self-described “farming rebel” Karina and the Huerta Luna teamwork with local farmers, tour operators, restaurants, and others to expand sustainable agriculture. At her research farm, Karina practices resilient permaculture, and applies ecological principles to her agricultural practices in a way that mimics and builds upon the natural environment around her. In this way, she is able to work in tandem with native ecosystems to address the need for locally grown produce in the Islands and the reality of food insecurity in Galápagos.

Galápagos Conservancy is thrilled to have the privilege to support Karina and the Huerta Luna Farm, as well as the many other recipients of our WISE grants. The goal of the program — with generous support from our partner Goldman Sachs — is to invest in women-led, locally driven business projects with a conservation or sustainability focus. At the end of 2021 we awarded $70,000 in WISE grants to ten women living in the Islands, supporting native plant propagation, sustainable artistry, youth education, addressing gender violence, and more. We recognize that empowering women through conservation can transform communities and create positive, sustainable change in the Archipelago for people and ecosystems alike.

As is Avalon's tradition, we adopted a flock of turkeys in honor of Farm Sanctuary's Celebration for the Turkeys. Our adoption goes a long way towards helping farm animals- supporting the rescued turkeys at Farm Sanctuary, and advancing their rescue, education, and advocacy work.

The Philadelphia contingent visited Avalon HQ yesterday and some local Avalonians were on hand to welcome them and eat lunch on our beautiful rooftop deck!
