As we enjoy this year's Labor Day holiday, we need to remember that talent is universal, but opportunity is not.

According to NerdWallet, unemployment is at its lowest in five decades across the board. "By April 2023, unemployment hit 3.4% β€” a low not seen since May 1969."

However, we're still seeing significant higher unemployment rates than 3.4% toward Black and/or African American, and Latino/x populations.

We're ready to tackle and change that narrative with the support of our community and employer partners.

Our offices will be closed on Monday, September 4, 2023 in observance of the holiday. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

It's National Nonprofit Day 🎊 πŸŽ‰!!

What does that mean for you? Here are 4 ways to show your favorite NonProfits some love:

1️⃣ Get involved: Volunteer today with your favorite organization and lend a helping hand, or find out how you can get involved.
2️⃣ Donate to the cause: If you have some extra funds around, feel free to by materials or make a donation. Anything is appreciated and goes along way.
3️⃣ Share the socials: Like what you see on social media? Share your favorite posts for all your friends and family to see. Just sharing their content helps them.
4️⃣ Tell them how much you love them: Sometimes it's just nice to be appreciated. So if all you can give is your appreciation that's enough.

So from all of us at ChooseU, thanks for your continuing support, and we couldn't do this without you.

Happy national nonprofit day! πŸ’œπŸ’šπŸ€πŸ’›πŸ’™

ChooseU Launches New Brand, Continues Mission to Bridge the Skill Gap in US Workforce 07/20/2023

"We built unprecedented scale . . . and now we're starting a new chapter (as ChooseU) because our country needs more pathways to family-sustaining careers, especially in historically marginalized communities where talented people are too often priced out of a college degree.

In addition, the emergence of artificial intelligence and the rising costs of living make our mission more urgent than ever before and we’re driven to direct the deep experience of our team toward this effort." Emily Schafer, CEO of ChooseU.

Breaking into tech can be difficult, but it can be even harder when you are a woman, especially with gender bias in the tech industry.

A recent study found that when code sequences were posted anonymously on Github, code written by women was accepted 78.6%, 4% more than code written by men. However, when contributors are identifiable as male or female, men’s code is accepted at a higher rate.

Even still while facing these gender biases, studies also show that women-led tech companies perform three times better on average than those with male CEOS. This is exactly why we need more women in tech, to not only break workplace stereotypes but to help lead even more successful companies.

Check out some of our favorite organizations focused on putting more women in tech and breaking the glass ceiling.

Skills-based hiring continues to rise as degree requirements fade 03/01/2023

While many IT occupations have also seen degree requirements vanish, there remain three where bachelor's degrees are still blocking the more than 70 million workers who have skills gained through alternatives to college, according Opportunity at Work:

1. Computer & Information Systems Managers: 698,000 workers hold such jobs today β€” and 19% of them are alternatively trained. Yet, 94% of those jobs require a bachelor's degree.

2. Computer Programmers: 481,000 workers fill these jobs today, 21% of whom are alternatively trained. But 76% of those jobs require a bachelor's degree.

3. Computer Support Specialists: 539,000 workers now have these jobs, with 45% of them alternatively trained. And still, 45% of those jobs require a bachelor's degree.
