AROUND THE FARM UPDATE

We are picking up the pullets tonight! Bob is working on the final parts of the shelter and we leave in about an hour to go get them. By the time you read this they will be tucked in and spending their first day with us! We will be refining the system as we go along but we are ready enough for the birds.

We have also made some other decisions and changes in our overall operation. We are starting to have our feed delivered! This will save us so much time on the road and Ernst Grain and Livestock has grown enough that they are able to offer this option for us now. It was about a 45 minute trip one way over the Catoctins and back with a 24 foot trailer and about 5-6 ton of feed.

We have also made the decision to not feed brewers grain any longer because of the long haul times and the difficulty in handling on the farm. This was an even scarier trip down 270 with that big trailer and literal tons of wet brewers grain in barrels. We are grateful to the breweries we have been so fortunate to work with (and will miss the beer) but this is the right decision for us.

This will save us about 1000 miles of travel and hauling every month, not to even mention the time. It really feels like a huge burden has been lifted not having to worry about people and equipment being on the road for these things. We can now spend more time focused on the farm and our markets.

Save MtP's Rosemount Center!

Rosemount Center Lease Terminated
Community Seeking Support, Signatures

For more than 50 years the Rosemount Center in Mount Pleasant has been serving the community, providing comprehensive early childhood education and family support programs in a bilingual multicultural setting.

Last Friday, the Rosemount Center announced that their landlord has decided to terminate their lease as of August 2024, and will no longer be able to operate from their current location as of August 31, 2024. Neighbors and local officials are taking action to seek out options to preserve access to education in our Mount Pleasant community.

The Rosemount Center community has penned an open letter to the landlord requesting that they meet with community representatives soon to engage in discussions about a path forward that will allow Rosemount Center to continue to operate in its location.
