This Juneteenth, we're reflecting on the historical lack of access to safe outdoor spaces for Black communities. Places we all often enjoy like public parks, beaches, trails, and pools were off-limits to people of color, creating a barrier to nature's beauty and the benefits of spending time outdoors. That's why, at Out Teach, we're passionate about creating equitable education through outdoor learning spaces in historically underserved communities. We believe every student deserves the chance to explore, learn, and grow in a setting that's easily accessible, safe, and inclusive!
As Michael Smith, our Director of Landscape Architecture and Outdoor Classrooms, says: "If we aren't the ones shaping the quality of our outdoor spaces, then someone else will." https://outteach.co/ADayWithMichael
Let's keep working towards a future where every child has equitable access to outdoor spaces that inspire and welcome them.

DC's own. Teachers like Dr. Austin make lasting impact on students. Congratulations Dr. Austin - what an incredible and well deserved honor.
We stand at the threshold of a new era in STEM where the brilliant minds shaping our world are becoming as diverse as the challenges they address. But we still have work to do. Women in science, particularly those of color, remain underrepresented in STEM fields. The power of representation for young learners can't be overstated – when girls see scientists who reflect their own image and experiences, it ignites a spark of possibility. It's not just about role models; it's about students seeing a future for themselves in roles that they may consider beyond reach.
That's why Lyda Hill Philanthropies' IF/THEN collection is so critically important. We've paired scientists from the collection with our favorite lessons so girls know that what they're learning today is connected to the STEM jobs that are open to them tomorrow.
