“Laws without enforcement are just pretty words on paper.” 📄

Farm workers are the definition of essential workers—they perform repetitive, intensive tasks (often while exposed to the elements) that place them at great risk of serious injury, all so that others may eat.

But the over 2 million people who make up this overwhelmingly immigrant labor force lack many basic guarantees of US labor law: organizing protection, time-and-a-half overtime pay, and many more. Many farm workers are paid so little that they have trouble putting food on their own tables.

Weaving in 400 Seconds gives you a chance to meet three weavers doing very different things. Each tells their story with 20 slides for 20 seconds each, and then answers questions in small groups.

Ben Wikner (Gaithersburg, MD) is taking his experience as a father of seven children, longtime pastor of a church, and non-profit leader to connect and empower folks at the intersection of faith and community development.

Brian Kolenich (Youngstown, OH) is improving the quality of life of older adults by creating services that focus on their wellbeing and connect them to their larger community.

Maggie Cleary (Culpeper, VA) is working to inspire local government officials like her to become weavers by seeing people as assets instead of issues.

The fast-paced and fun session will take place Monday, February 12th from 7-8pm ET / 4-5pm PT
