Our Story

Since its founding in 1953, The Children's Guild Alliance has been an innovator in providing services for children and adolescents with emotional, behavioral and mental disorders. It has grown from a one-room preschool to serving hundreds of seriously disturbed children and their families, through special education schools, outpatient mental health services, after-school partnerships, treatment foster care and the group living academy, among other programs. The Children's Guild Alliance’s tradition of leadership in special education and care of the emotionally disturbed child continues today.

The Children's Guild Alliance is guided by Transformation Education an organizational philosophy and operation system for child-serving organizations. Transformation Education helps The Children's Guild Alliance create a flexible, brain-compatible organizational culture that emphasizes the values, skills and beliefs necessary for a successful life. As part of that philosophy, The Children's Guild Alliance focuses on transforming the mindset and actions of its teachers, clinicians and staff rather than trying to focus on changing the behavior of its students. Through Transformation Education, The Children's Guild Alliance uses a holistic approach by harnessing its systems, staff, environment, and curriculum to provide an enriched and effective milieu for educating young people.
