On February 4, 2024, during the Sac-N-Fox Lodge annual Winter Banquet, the late Coleen Grayson and Chuck Hogg were honored in a Broken Arrow Ceremony of the Sac-N-Fox-Lodge. Both Coleen and Chuck devoted a significant portion of their lives to the ideals of the Order of the Arrow and Scouting and will long be in our hearts and on our minds! The broken arrows in memory of Coleen and Chuck from this ceremony, will be added to a ceremonial fire during a future gathering of the Sac-N-Fox Lodge.
The Broken Arrow Ceremony is a final tribute to a deceased Arrowman who served others cheerfully and embodied the ideals of the Order of the Arrow and the Scout Oath and Scout Law in their daily life!
It’s with great sadness that we share the passing of Colleen Grayson. Colleen was a lifelong Scouter and member of the Order of the Arrow.
We will honor and remember Colleen during a Broken Arrow ceremony at Winter Banquet.
It is taking a bit to process this news of passing for one of our long-term Lakeland District Scouters, Colleen Grayson. With her hearty laugh and big smile, you always knew you were in for fun and good times. Whether that was with her scouting Bestie - Carol Meyer, her husband and sons, Rob, William, Nic and Adam, or the hundreds of others she made fast friends with throughout the Winnebago Coun cil over the years. Rest easy Colleen.
Services to be held at a later date.
Obituary for Colleen Kay Grayson
Colleen Kay Grayson, 64, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away January 10, 2024, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.
Colleen was born October 12, 1959 in Spencer, Iowa, daughter of Leonard and Patsy (Swecker) Wright. She graduated from Laurens Marathon High School; later graduating from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing with the class of 1981. After over thirty years working as a registered nurse, Colleen retired in 2014. She was united in marriage to William “Rob” Grayson October 14, 1984 at Balboa Park in San Diego, California. They were blessed with three sons.
Colleen was very active in her sons’ activities. She was a Boy Scout as well as a Cub Scout leader for many years. She was also the camp director for the Winnebago Scout Reservation. This was their home away from home and the family spent a majority of their summers there along with the many opportunities to stay throughout the year. Colleen was a passionate woman who always believed in putting her whole heart into anything she did. Family meant the world to her and she enjoyed spending time with her sons and grandchildren. Colleen was an avid Steelers fan and her quilting projects always kept her busy.
Those left to cherish her are her husband of 39 years, Rob; sons, William (Kelsey) Grayson, Nic (Tiffany) Grayson, and Adam (Jocelyn) Grayson; grandchildren, Lily, Luna, Lainey, and Miles; brothers, Brian Wright and Scott Wright; and sister, Lynn Kramer; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Preceding her in death are her parents.
