Katie, Patient Care Tech, Medical Telemetry/Stroke Care Unit (R2) - Maine Medical Center (MMC)

Katie started as a Certified Nursing Assistant at MMC four years ago. Two years ago she was promoted to Patient Care Tech – congrats Katie!

“My new role has opened opportunities for me by involving me more closely in the care of my patients,” Katie said. “I have more responsibility in this role and work in a tighter partnership alongside the RNs on my team to more effectively care for our patients by performing tasks such as straight catheterizations, removing IV lines when patients are ready for discharge, and more.”

“On R2 we all take on any and all tasks we can accomplish within our role, and we communicate well to make sure all patient needs are attended to. When one of us feels that we are falling behind, we always have a co-worker ready to jump in and help, no questions asked,” Katie said.

“I have worked here for four years and don’t ever see myself working anywhere other than MaineHealth.” Thank you for all you do to provide compassionate care to your patients, Katie!

Gretchen, CNA/CRMA – Quarry Hill Retirement Community, Camden Maine

Gretchen has been a dedicated care team member at Quarry Hill for 14 years and has been a CNA for a total of 35 years!

“When I applied to work at Quarry Hill it wasn’t really a career change for me, but it was another opportunity for me to continue to do what I do best, and that is being of service to the elderly population - the people that I believe have been the biggest blessing in my life. My mom was also a Registered Nurse and I learned from an early age the peace and love that comes with providing care to people both at their best moments and also at their most challenging moments.”

“I love spending time with my residents - they bring joy and laughter to my soul every day! I am also very lucky that I get to work with such a great team of coworkers and management staff. I will never forget the team spirit, comfort and encouragement we have shared with one another throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We all have remained strong and have kept our residents safe the entire time. In 2018 when my mom passed away from cancer, my entire team came through for me. They made me feel like I have another family here at Quarry Hill - I will never forget the support I received.”

Gretchen also had an opportunity to hone her CNA skills and further her career by becoming a Certified Residential Medication Aide (CRMA).

“When I first started at Quarry Hill, I worked as a CNA for the first year. I was then encouraged by our Director of Nursing at that time to go back to school to obtain my certification as a CRMA. A typical day for me includes shift report, rounding on my residents, medications administration and assisting my residents with activities of daily living (ADLs). If there is one place in the world that you want to work, and feel at home at the same time, Quarry Hill is number one for that!”

Since I started my road to RECOVERY I always believed in order to move forward we had to accept our past, and WEAR that sobriety like a BADGE. And this page is for you guys who made that step, no matter if it was for an hour or 20 years. We all know how hard it is to get to where we are. SALUTE to US ALL.

​I once heard a sober alcoholic say that drinking never made him happy, but it made him feel like he was going to be happy in about fifteen minutes. That was exactly it, and I couldn’t understand why the happiness never came, couldn’t see the flaw in my thinking, couldn’t see that alcohol kept me trapped in a world of illusion, procrastination, paralysis. I lived always in the future, never in the present. Next time, next time! Next time I drank it would be different, next time it would make me feel good again. And all my efforts were doomed, because already drinking hadn’t made me feel good in years.

Operation Warm The Streets is a personal campaign for the HOMELESS in PORTLAND MAINE a few of us at Nuthin But Flav decided how we wanted to give back for the winter 2021. We want to RAISE this money to help buy A BUNDLE of 24 COATS, 120 pairs of THERMAL SOCKS, 90 THERMAL SETS ASSORTED MEN AND WOMEN, and 50 to 75 BLANKETS to pass out first round when it starts getting COLDER in MAINE.

It's the least we can do to start. I started Nuthin But Flav to create a larger Platform to be able to HELP PEOPLE. I Created the MOVEMENT (SOAAL SURVIVORS) for those in Recovery and or STRUGGLING with ADDICTION to provide resources, education and sponsorship. Or at the very least someone anyone can talk to. My name is Flav ThaGod and It's my GOAL to try and warm the streets 2021 as a way to give back, or just HELP out. At the ER with my client. I snapped this pic but there's a story with it.... the lady little lady does not speak English and was not allowed into the ER with her son because you cannot have anybody accompany you. So he told the triage nurse please take care of my mother she does not speak English and I haven't left her alone. A few minutes later I'm sitting here keeping my open eyes on the lil old lady until her son comes back knocks on the window and has been standing here with his mom ever since. That's love!!
