The Royal Brigade closed out Thursday's short day with some music of a different kind - it rocked. Stay tuned for the last two dress-up days this week!

USA! USA! Late post from yesterday's NWRB Olympics dress up day - but definitely worth the wait. Everyone went all-out to dress as their favorite Olympic moment. The winners were the percussion section - who won the gold in the Percussion Team Relay, complete with baton (drumstick) and cheering section!

New school year, new meeting time.
July NWBPO meeting will be this Tuesday, 7/16, at 6:00 in the band room.

One of our own NWRB members, Chris Rech, is marching tenors this summer with the Colts Drum & Bugle Corps from Dubuque. There is a drum corps show hosted by the Colts tomorrow, July 14th, at 7 p.m. in Ankeny.

If you’ve never been to a drum corps show it is a great chance to see some of the best musical athletes in action.

If your band students would like to order a band jacket (entirely optional), the current order will close on July 15th. There will likely be a chance to order in August but the cost will go up and they would not be available until late September.

Check out the brand new signs on the Can Shack, replacing the very old (and faded) signs and highlighting our shared fundraiser. Special thanks to our own Mark Divingnzzo, who earned Silver Cord hours putting them up!

One of our own NWRB members, Chris Rech, is marching tenors for his 2nd summer with the Colts Drum & Bugle Corps from Dubuque. The Colts are currently rehearsing at Drake University daily through Sunday June 23rd. They will be doing a formal summer premier of their 2024 production on Friday June 21st at Drake Stadium at 7 p.m. The event is free of charge. In the meantime, you are welcome to watch the corps rehearse anytime during the day or evening. Most evenings they have a full ensemble rehearsal from 7:30-9:30 p.m. If you’ve never experienced a drum corps performance you are encouraged to go check them out and support one of our own NWRB members. This year’s corps has 165 members. About a dozen are current or alumni of Central Iowa schools including Northwest, Waukee, Dowling, Ankeny, and Pella. Last week was a very big week for our seniors, capped off by the very first Northwest Bands Senior Class Recital. The audience was treated to the results of their talents and hard work this year - fantastic music!

Two fundraiser things for this evening -

1. It's the 3rd Wednesday of the month (how did that happen?) so go to Papa John's in Waukee tonight to get pizza and support the bands!

2. Our Flower Power fundraiser ends TODAY! If you have not had a chance to check out our website and order anything, you need to do it NOW. Here's the link:

Northwest Band Parent Organization Flower Power Fundraising helps support groups, causes and communities using an earth-friendly alternative to traditional fundraising through the sale of flowers, bulbs and perennials that can be enjoyed for years to come!

Band Awards are tomorrow evening (Tuesday) at 7:00 in the auditorium - come to celebrate all of our students' achievements, see who won our very first NWBPO scholarships, and see the end of the year video - which will probably make you laugh and cry.
All are welcome to attend (even parents, despite what your kids may tell you)!

Color Guard auditions start tonight!!

Our Spring band concert is happening next Tuesday, May 14th here at Trailridge School! The 6th graders will perform first at 6:00, followed by the 7th graders at 7:30 that evening. We can't wait to celebrate our band students' musical accomplishments this year.

It should be a short meeting (don't roll your eyes at me🤣) to plan for early summer. We can't stay late as Friday is a big day!

Bundtlet pickup is Thursday afternoon, starting right after school, in the band room. Pickup will run until the NWBPO meeting starts at 7:00. You can enter through the band room door in the west side of the building.
