Good Evening family and friends...this has not been an easy decision and not something I have ever wanted to do. Unfortunately, the race is not going to happen tomorrow. Back in November I broke my leg and spent 10 weeks non weight barring. Not only physically did this take a toll on me but also mentally I took a big hit. Right now I am working hard to get the race rescheduled. Please know that I never wanted this to happen and I will have the final race. The two families from last fall received partial payments and I have 2 more families to add to the final race.

No one said cancer was easy and mentally preparing for my 10 years since diagnoses on Monday has had me mentally challenged. Right now I am working through some stuff and I will have a date soon for the FINAL RACE. Again I am so sorry!

Introducing Amanda McKinney Shelley.

Check out this young fighters story and come out and join us to support her and her family.

Never in a million years did I think this would ever happen to me. I have been through a lot in my young life. At 37 years of age, I am a mother to 3 amazing kids, Nolyn 15, Allie 13, and Peyton 6 and girlfriend to Joby and his son Keith 9. I am a daughter, a sister, and an Army Veteran serving our country for 4 years and one tour in Iraq. My name is Amanda Shelley, I prefer Mandy and I am currently fighting Stage 2b Triple Negative Breast Cancer.

Late spring while showering one morning I noticed a lump in my breast. After putting it off for a while for fear of the reality I would soon find out, I caved and went to see my doctor. At that time they scheduled a Mammogram. My gut was telling me things were not going to be mermaids and unicorns.

I went in for my mammogram and they didn’t find anything except dense breast tissue. So they decided to do an ultrasound. This is where they saw the mass. At that time we decided to do a lumpectomy and send the mass off to be tested.

May 30th, 2018 is the day my world turned upside down. With my family surrounding me I found out I had Triple Negative Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. First step…chemo therapy! I began “the red devil” at the end of June and am set to finish up Taxol towards the end of October. At that time the rest of my journey will be mapped out. This hasn’t been an easy road as I am not able to work so money is tight. I have had the mouth sores, peeling hands, tingling feet & hands along with being tired.

I am so thankful for my family support, Joby, Keith and their family support and friends support that I couldn’t imagine being on this journey without them.

As a young woman, I ask of you to check your breast and don’t let fear stand in your way of getting things checked out.

Introducing Jennifer Gardner
In March 2018, I noticed a sizable lump in my right breast. I was still breastfeeding my 6 month old daughter, Larkin, at the time so I figured it was a plugged duct. When my supply waned, I tried to work the bump out like I had others prior but to no avail. A month later, one of my friends from high school with a son one month older than Larkin was diagnosed with breast cancer. That floored me and prompted me to get my lump checked.
On 4/27/2018, I got the call confirming my lump was cancer, invasive Ductile Carcinoma. I was at work when I got the call and planned to stay there to keep my mind busy. My significant other, Shane Coats, was off of work with our daughter. When he got the news he offered to take us to lunch. He really dressed up for our lunch date, which I thought was sweet. He took us to one of the places we had frequently gone to lunch together. I was a mess, crying all over the place. He told me we would do this together and before I knew it was pulling a box from his pocket and asking me to marry him. WHAT?! He had planned to propose the next month on Mother’s Day, but then life happened 🙂 It was a roller coaster of emotions. Extreme low to extreme high. It meant everything to me that he chose that moment to say, without a shadow of a doubt, he was signing up for the unknown and we would ride the wave together.
After the PET scan and additional tests, the official diagnosis came back as Stage 3c with the size of the tumor, lymph node involvement and a faint mammary lighting up in my chest wall. The treatment plan was 6 rounds of taxotere, carboplatin, herceptin, and perjeta, surgery, and radiation.
We were wed just before my 3rd chemo on June 23rd with our kids, Larkin & Alex, by our side.
I’m thankful and honored to receive this nomination!
