His presentation key take-aways:

✅ Hand and wrist injuries are often complex 🖐️

✅ ATCs should consider developing a professional relationship with local trusted hand surgeon(s) who can offer rapid evaluations of student athletes to avoid delays in diagnoses, and minimize time out of sport.

✅ Communication is KEY - Your hand surgeon team member needs to be comfortable and willing to call/text directly with the team ATC.

🏀 OG Anunoby of the has been suffering from pain and inflammation from a loose body in his right elbow (shooting arm) and recently had an arthroscopy procedure to remove the loose body from the elbow joint.

Today I had a chance to discuss these types of elbow conditions in shooting athletes w/ writer Peter Botte, and about when a patient with this condition might expect to return to the hardwood. 💪

Shoulder dislocations are painful and anxiety-provoking!!

When a patient dislocates their shoulder for the first time, it’s more likely to happen again…and again…and again - and it’s PAINFUL! 😖

Fortunately, we have some amazing modern orthopedic tools to fix this problem!

My patient here is a 14-year-old football player who has had multiple anterior shoulder dislocations. In fact, it had come out of its socket so many times that it had started to happen in his sleep! 💤 😳😫

In the first image, we can see into the shoulder joint, and are looking directly at the labral tear at the anterior-inferior glenoid (inflammation there too!). I like to describe this as the open barn door that keeps letting the humeral head out of its socket.🚪

In the second image, you can see the delivery of the suture anchors into the glenoid rim. These knotless anchors are super strong and eliminate the possibility of joint irritation -FYI the old anchors needed to get tied down with knots. 🪢

In the 3rd and final image, you can see the multiple anchors placed and tensioned in a way so as to lock down that “barn door” and recreate the supportive “hammock” effect of the capsule-labral complex.
