D-Day: 80 Years Later
There are no sentences we could craft that would carry enough appreciative and somber weight to fully honor the sacrifice of the brave soldiers that stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, 80 years ago today.
It is no secret that things have changed a bit in our world and country since that day of mass courage and carnage. But one thing remains true: we are blessed by God to live in a free nation, surrounded by veterans, shrouded in their sacrifice.
Take an 80 second pause today to remember the sacrifice of those who ran towards bullets, bombs and beaches so we could be free and tyrants could be toppled.
"The D-Day operation of June 6, 1944, brought together the land, air, and sea forces of the allied armies in what became known as the largest amphibious invasion in military history. The operation, given the codename OVERLORD, delivered five naval assault divisions to the beaches of Normandy, France. The beaches were given the code names UTAH, OMAHA, GOLD, JUNO, and SWORD. The invasion force included 7,000 ships and landing craft manned by over 195,000 naval personnel from eight allied countries. Almost 133,000 troops from the United States, the British Commonwealth, and their allies, landed on D-Day. Casualties from these countries during the landing numbered 10,300. By June 30, over 850,000 men, 148,000 vehicles, and 570,000 tons of supplies had landed on the Normandy shores. Fighting by the brave soldiers, sailors, and airmen of the allied forces western front, and Russian forces on the eastern front, led to the defeat of German N**i forces. On May 7, 1945, German General Alfred Jodl signed an unconditional surrender at Reims, France."

What a convicting thought?!
Wayside, letâs aim to be a healthy church that SINGS! If you had the opportunity to be with us today, we hope you left encouraged & edified!
Each flag you see on our church property represents over 15,000 soldiers that have died for our freedom.
As you take time this weekend to remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice, donât forget the sacrifice that God gave to save our souls!
See you this Sunday at 8:30 or 11:00 for worship!
9 years today, our Chief Shepherd, Jesus, called one of Waysideâs pastors home.
Pastor Randy Blankenship served the people of Augusta County faithfully for 30+ years along side another one of Waysideâs former pastors, Jerry Cline. Together, these two provided bread for the hungry and water for the thirsty as they âlooked well to the state of the flocksâ the Lord had given them to steward.
Randy was known for being a great husband to his wife, Karen, and father and family man to his kids and grandchildren. (Karen currently serves on Waysideâs staff, continuing on in the ministry of her late husband â¤ď¸)
Randy was known for his passionate preaching, silly demeanor and musical artistry. Most days, you could find him in his office at the local MacDonalds, holding meetings and greeting new people heâd meet.
9 years ago today, Randy preached twice, went to his earthly home and moments later saw Christ in his heavenly home. He stepped out of the pulpit and into Glory.
That same evening, someone that had heard his final message knelt in their living room, believed in the Gospel and was saved.
People came to Christ even in his death.
We celebrate and honor the memory of this soldier of the cross. We give honor to whom honor is due. We give this elder double honor and highly esteem him as Scripture clearly commands.
His Gospel legacy lives on as we continue to strive to love God, serve people and preach the Word.
Praise the Lord Jesus for those that have paved the way. And praise Jesus for the hope of eternal life in Heaven!
1 Cor. 3:7-9
So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
