"My husband came home & announced he signed us up for Anytime Fitness along with Personal Training sessions & I had to go in for an initial assessment. What? Ok. I don’t know how this is going to work. I am too busy. So, I found an hour to visit with Cheri. She asked what I wanted out of this. I wanted to get rid of my pain. I had been struggling with chronic neck, shoulder & back pain for years. It was getting progressively worse, for extended lengths of time & increasing frequency. I had tried physical therapy, dry needling, stretches, creams, medicines/painkillers, massage therapy, chiropractors & rheumatologists. I felt like no one really could pinpoint the source of the problems & were treating just the symptoms. I personally felt like I was becoming weaker & needed to try to build muscle in the right areas. If that is a thing? I need to do something. Cheri was wonderful. Despite my skeptical demeanor, she was helpful, insightful & positive she could help make a change. She evaluated how my body worked, its strength, symmetry & flexibility and made suggestions for exercises. I started sessions 2x/week. It was unbelievable how hard it was for me to activate some muscles! Like they forgot they could move. And they were so weak, sometimes I couldn’t even add any weight! It was just learning the motion. No wonder other muscle groups were bearing the load of my crazy, busy, heavy lifting life! They didn’t have helpers! I could feel the muscles in my back & legs. They were sore after workouts, but I knew they were there, and I could move them. It took almost two months before I could really start building those muscles. What a difference. I stretch & build them up & my low back pain is rarely felt, and my upper body posture has improved. My neck will go weeks without pain, & I can sleep again. It's not completely gone, but the improvement is motivation to keep me coming to sessions. The most difficult obstacle I had to overcome was I had to prioritize myself. I had, & still have, to tell myself I’m more important than starting a load of laundry, emptying the dishwasher or taking care of the animals. These are important things in my life, but they can wait an hour. My health is more important than if the dog gets walked in the early morning or late morning. The most unexpected part & the part I love the most, is I’m part of a community. The Coaches care about my success, about me as a person, & think of what can help me on their days off. They always remember what I struggle with & make suggestions for variations. I look forward to seeing them & the other members I get the pleasure of working out with. We share stories of our lives with each other. We support, motivate & congratulate each other. There is a team type of camaraderie. Together we are stronger, healthier & happier."
We are so proud of Colette's determination to improve her overall quality of life. She's worked so hard, in and out of the gym, to get to where she is today. Her dedication and consistency is inspiring! We appreciate her positive attitude and willingness to cheer others on! We can't wait to see where the rest of 2024 takes her, and we're blessed to be along for the ride!
