Today, Uplift in partnership with Dickerson Children's Advocacy Center we had some one-on-one time with the kids participating in Cayce Character Camp hosted by the City of Cayce Police Department. Our word of the day was “thoughtful.”

Today we talked about being thoughtful with the words we say to ourselves and others. We also talked about how to use positive coping strategies when they feel upset.

We enjoyed making it a day of fun but covering a big topic around youth mental health as they go into a new year of school.

Uplift presented at the Georgia Association for Development Professionals (GADP) and SC Society of Hospital Fund Development (SCHSHFD) conference aimed towards informing hospital foundations about the grant process, fundraising, and how to be successful with innovative ideas. We shared our story and how our program has evolved through the years. We made a lot of connections and are thankful to have had the opportunity to share our journey.

This morning UPLIFT assisted the Lexington County Sheriff's Department in providing the homeless population with resources. This event was in effort to re-designate locations of the unsheltered population off properties across the Red Bank area in which property managers requested for the unsheltered to be removed.

UPLIFT along with Homeless No More, Crossroads Treatment Center, Prisma Supportive Housing Services, Transitions, and The Courage Center rallied in one location to provide immediate resource to these individuals. They were supplied with hygiene kits, snacks, drinks, socks, shoes, hats, women's hygiene items, dog food, cat food, and much more to help create connections and offer more long-term resources.

We made contact with 17 out of the 23 individuals who were encountered both at the event space and at the camps where our community paramedic brought items to them personally. We are thrilled that we had the opportunity to touch so many lives in a short amount of time.

We love the impact our interns make when helping departments divert individuals into services to help them thrive long-term! 👏🤩

Your daily dose of positivity comes from our Social Work Internship program, which is currently a component of our Compass partner, Uplift Lexington County. Through the outreach program, College of Social Work at South Carolina students Leah and Tara interact with subjects of calls to find them additional resources that help them thrive.

“One of the families I helped was struggling with food insecurity and this was discovered after we read a shift report about shoplifting. We were able to connect the client with a food pantry and give information about applying for SNAP. Additionally, I was able to connect one individual to a substance use support group and another to low-cost mental health counseling.”

This program is inspired by the West Columbia Police Department's leadership. We presently have students placed at the City of Cayce Police Department and Lexington Police Department.
