Today’s the start of the Calm Harbour Wellness Weekend here on the stunning eastern edge of Newfoundland! We’ve been planning it for a while, and couldn’t be more excited to welcome this group into the next few days of mindful experiences, coastal beauty, and mindset resets.

I appreciate that getting up at sunrise to meditate doesn’t appeal to everyone.
In fact, it didn’t appeal to me for many years.
But with THIS level of sensory event as a reward for that early rise, it’s a lot easier than one might think.
A lifetime is a beautiful compilation of moments. Some great. Some less than great. All of them matter. Who knows how many we’ll get.
But when a moment is great, it’s nice if you’re able to stop in that moment to notice and appreciate it.
Do you do that?
Or are you mentally racing ahead to the next moment?
For me, this moment this morning represents the culmination of lots of planning, creating and dreaming. I’m flying to the East Coast of Canada to do some last-minute prep work for the upcoming sold-out 3 night wellness weekend at Cliffs Edge Retreat on the raw and rugged coast of Tors Cove in Newfoundland. Incredible location, stunning accommodations, and a group of amazing guides and instructors.
Sure, I’ll be working on a last minute to-do list on this flight. But I’m also intentionally sinking into a moment of celebration and appreciation for the coming-to-life of this project.
We often work hard to make something happen. But it’s equally important to take that moment and notice how it feels in your mind and body.
It’s not always about what’s next. Sometimes, it’s about what’s now.
And really, isn’t that all that there really is?
How often have you been told that you might benefit from a little mindfulness? Maybe it was from a friend, doctor or therapist?
No judging! It took me YEARS to psych myself up to register for my first course over a decade ago. I get it. The timing had to be "right", I kept telling myself.

I'm launching the next INTRODUCTION TO MINDFULNESS course on Wednesday, 9 October 2024 (7pm-830pm ET).
It’s an 8 week course that will take you from a baseline of maybe little to no experience with mindfulness and/or meditation, to a point where you can absolutely learn and experience the immediate benefits of mindfulness.
Feedback from our public and workplace courses always seem to focus on the same conclusion: the techniques taught here are learnable, wholly applicable, and beneficial to daily life. Levels of your distress, contentment, and clarity can all benefit from a little smattering of mindfulness :-)

Wow! The guides, instructors, Cliffs Edge Retreat team, and myself are all rather staggered by the level of interest in this upcoming retreat.
We've now sold out all spots in this 3 night wellness weekend, and I think it says a lot about our interest (or perhaps need?) to occasionally pull back from our usual day-to-day lives and reconnect with some simpler ways to find a splash of joy or contentment in the everyday.

Remember lying on your back on summer days, gazing at clouds, as a kid? That was a little entry point into mindfulness. For a few minutes, you were there, in that moment. Maybe waiting to see if the cloud would morph into a dog. Or a maple leaf. Or a donut. And being ok with whatever happened. You were just there. Noticing. Seeing. Staying with the change. Nothing else to do and nowhere else to be. Felt good, right? Try it again and enjoy the silence. And don’t forget to breathe.
Mindfulness and yoga are a perfect match. When you practice yoga, you’re not just waking up your body; you’re connecting to its present moment, tuning into your breath, and becoming aware of your sensations. This is the body’s parallel to mindfulness. So, if you’re already doing yoga, you’re already on a mindfulness journey. Soak into each moment on the mat, and let that mindful awareness flow into your daily life. And yes, I have on my sunscreen 🙂
