Maple View Sugarworks
Maple View SugarWorks is a family-run farm in northern Vermont. We take pride in our farm, our land, and our maple syrup and other maple confections.
Software developers turned farmers, we’ve been making maple syrup for over 25 years. Nestled near the Canadian border in VT we have 8500 taps, make 3000-3500 gallons of maple syrup every year, and have Icelandic sheep and alpacas for their wool.
We love our sugar makers for more than the sweet stuff! Sending a big thank you to all of our members who help keep our sugar bushes and forests happy, safe, and sustainable for seasons to come!
Happy Earth Day!
Giving back to our environment. BIG Thanks to all our customers!
Started pulling the taps yesterday. The little treasures I find are priceless.
We are done for the season. Whew!
63 Drums of maple syrup. Next up:
1. we clean up the sugarhouse,
2. decide which drums to keep (always the cream of the crop),
3. bring the rest to our local bulk distributor,
4. replenish our Jugs of maple syrup in our shop and Etsy store
5. start pulling taps,
6. clean tubing, tanks, pump houses, etc, etc, etc.
Hopefully we're done with that list by the end of May.
We overcame some serious challenges, but all in all it was a very good season. The total eclipse was incredibly special. Who could ask for more?
Making very tasty Fancy today!
We have 2 automatic valves that we set the depth of the boiling sap. One is for the 2 front pans that keeps the level at 3 inches deep. The 2nd one keeps the depth at 4.5 inches deep. Since we boil at higher brix than the traditional method, we cook the sap longer to achieve that wonderful maple flavor. Without really cooking it you will get sweet but not-maple flavors.
The 3rd item with the blue button is our monitor for seeing what the temp is in each of the 3 flat pans. When the sap turns to syrup- 2.194F - in our case. The automatic draw-off valve opens until the temp drops below the set temperature. Or you can take over manually and control it ourselves. It’s a beautiful thing when there is only 2 of us and something else goes wrong elsewhere in the sugarhouse.
Breakfast gravy coming right up!

Maple Monday! Vermont Maple Pot Roast
INGREDIENTS
1 three pound chuck roast
Salt and pepper
½ cup flour
4 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 large sweet onion, peeled and chopped
¼ cup Vermont maple syrup
2 tablespoons tomato paste
3 cups chicken broth
¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
1 tablespoon grainy mustard
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 cups baby carrots
2 tablespoons butter, softened
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 325. Add a pinch each of salt and pepper to the flour and dredge the roast in the flour mixture. Save the remaining flour mixture for later.
Put the oil in a large oven-safe Dutch oven and heat over medium high heat. Sear the roast on both sides for about 5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
Add the chopped onion and sauté until starting to soften, about 2-3 minutes. Add the maple syrup and tomato paste and stir. Add the broth, parsley, mustard and oregano and stir again, making sure you get those flavorful bits off the bottom of the pot.
Put the roast back in the pot, bring the liquid to a boil and cover the pot. Transfer the covered pot to the preheated oven and let it cook for two hours. Remove and add the carrots. Cover the pot again and cook until the meat is tender, another hour or so.
When the meat is done, take it out of the pot and shred it into pieces (you can also slice it if you prefer!).
Mash the butter with 2 tablespoons of that flour we saved and add it to the Dutch oven. Bring the liquid to a simmer and stir until slightly thickened. Put the meat back in, stir until it is combined with that scrumptious gravy and serve!

Small electrical fire in the sugarhouse yesterday. I went in there last evening and there was smoke everywhere. This motor is connected to one of the towers on the Reverse Osmosis machine. We have no idea what went wrong with it. The RO's breaker certainly didn't pop in time to prevent this. I wonder if the thunderstorms that went through here had anything to do with it.
Fire mojo strikes again.

Our Story
Software developers turned farmers, we’ve been making maple syrup for almost 30 years. Nestled near the Canadian border in VT we have 11,500 taps, make 3500-4000 gallons of maple syrup every year, and have Icelandic sheep and alpacas for their wool.
Making the best maple syrup is not just what we do on our farm at Maple View SugarWorks, it’s who we are. From caring for our land, trees, and animals in the most sustainable way to cleaning our evaporator every day during sugaring season, we strive to bring you the best tasting, golden, sweetest treat you’ve ever had.
We started our sugar-making journey in New Hampshire, trading an upright piano for a used barrel evaporator. Back then we had 100 taps and used galvanized buckets to gather the sap. Now, we have graduated to stringing those little blue tubes throughout our 150 acre sugarbush and use a 3.5’x12’ stainless steel evaporator to cook maple sap to a rich, golden, gourmet treat.
In 2012 the State of Vermont Food and Agriculture Department offered to inspect and certify sugarhouses that meet the Vermont Maple Sugar Makers Association (VMSMA) standards for clean, efficient, safe, and environmentally sound operation. Our sugarhouse is one of the first to be “certified” by the State of Vermont with zero deductions.
