Summer is the time to be outdoors, enjoying nighttime fireworks and family BBQs. But with these activities comes the increased risk of fire to ruin your sizzling good times. Beat the heat and stay safe with some of these blazing hot tips from FEMA.
Grill safety: Keep grills away from structures and trees. Remember to open gas grills before lighting. Clean your grill after each use.
Fire pits and Campfires: Build campfires at least 25 feet from tents, shrubs or anything that could burn. Ensure all embers are extinguished before leaving the fire.
Firework Safety: Do not let minors handle fireworks. Even a sparkler can burn at 1200 F. See if your local community is putting on a show and go out to watch the public displays.

Acting State Fire Marshal Jason M. Mowbray suggests that Marylanders attend public fireworks displays. "I would highly suggest the safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend one of the many public fireworks displays throughout the state," stated Mowbray.
Purchase the fireworks in the location where you intend to discharge them. Check with the local municipality to determine what fireworks are legal for use in that area.
Fireworks are PROHIBITED in Baltimore City, Montgomery, Prince George's, Harford, Howard counties, and Ocean City.
"Fireworks have been a long tradition of the 4th of July holiday celebrations. Please make safety your number one priority so everyone can enjoy the holiday season," stated Acting State Fire Marshal Mowbray. "By acting responsibly, we can help eliminate fireworks injuries in Maryland."

STOP THE BLEED® Educational License - We’re Approved!
The Department of Defense’s (DoD) STOP THE BLEED® (STB) Program is designed to train and equip the public to be able to treat traumatic injuries involving severe bleeding until the first responders arrive.
We’re excited to announce that Carroll County Department of Fire & EMS was recently issued a STOP THE BLEED® Educational License We look forward to teaching our community how to STOP THE BLEED®.
It is estimated that more than 30,000 lives could be saved each year if more people had this basic, straightforward, but vital STOP THE BLEED® training. Key to the program’s success are organizations licensed to teach DoD approved STOP THE BLEED® courses.
We are also announcing that we are now part of the Stop the Bleed Coalition. The Coalition is an IRS approved, tax exempt, 501(c)3 charitable organization. It was formed with a mandate to support the STOP THE BLEED® campaign and is the only nonprofit organization with that singular purpose.
The mission of the Stop the Bleed Coalition is to support the STOP THE BLEED® campaign by providing resources that enable collaboration and cooperation between the many people and organizations working to train and equip the nation to reduce the loss of life due to traumatic bleeding.
The Coalition is licensed by the US Department of Defense to support the STOP THE BLEED® campaign. The Coalition offers a wide variety of DoD approved services and products to the growing STOP THE BLEED® community and to the general public.
