We’re looking forward to hearing an amazing talk from an amazing woman. 2x Olympic Gold Medalist, lives for “Moving Boundaries” both personally and as a team leader and has proven so in both her athletic and professional careers.
How would you react if someone told you that the finish line you've been striving toward for years, perhaps a lifetime, is further away than you thought; unreachable even?
I'm speaking of the Tokyo Olympic Games, which were postponed for a year, and may not even happen due to COVID-19. You may not be an Olympian, nor even an athlete, but I'm guessing you can still relate. We've all had to make adjustments in the past year, and we're all learning to cope with the continued disruption.
As a multiple Olympic medalist, I've learned a good deal over the years about how to handle adversity. Come Wednesday April 21st to hear the story of how I've turned this obstacle into an opportunity for growth by reframing my goals and embracing discomfort, which in turn has allowed me to maintain motivation in the face of uncertainty; leave with the information and inspiration you need to do the same.
We are thrilled to to present the second lecture of our series to our corporate account as we promote educational and inspirational talks to support positive wellbeing among an office environment.
Presenting will be Dr. Amanda Missimer PhD, RD, LDN, an assitant clinical professor in the department of Nutrition and Food Sciences at the University of Rhode Island.
Amanda received her PhD from UConn where her work focused on the relationship of cholesterol-rich food to lipid metabolism. Amanda has knowledge in diabetes prevention, Cardiovascular disease, parenteral nutrition, food recovery and nutrition education on all levels.
Our topic this afternoon will be "Eating to Fuel your goals, not your emotions."
The gut/brain connection drives hunger and the ability to KEEP eating. In this seminar, Dr. Missimer will describe how the balance of body, brain, emotion and exercise play a role in what you eat everyday.
Topics will describe the mechanism of energy balance and how habits, memories, and even hydration play a role in what you eat everyday. Get ready to reexamine how your body takes in and utilizes food each day!
We’re looking forward to presenting to one of our corporate accounts today a first of a series of educational and inspirational talks supporting a employee wellbeing initiative. Below is a summary of the talk and a brief bio.
“What I have learned about leadership is that it's mutual.
Give to others as a leader what you would expect others to give to you. It's as simple as being human and not trying to be something more. Being human means always being thoughtful of others and caring in times of need. That's what leadership is; it's being human. It's taking care of people. It's providing guidance in times of ambiguity. It's mentoring others to reach their potential. Today like all the others before it, people are doing their best to prepare their families, friends, and colleagues for the constant changes life brings. The first step is realizing that change isn't always for the worse. Teaching others to view change from a positive perspective removes the reasons for others to doubt their abilities.
During the course of the talk, I will provide examples from my life (both good and bad) on how I and others close to me have led and adapted to change, and why we have avoided lesser motivations to accomplish goals.”
