Having an injury and missing time away from your team can be incredibly frustrating, BUT it can be incredibly productive.

Surrounding yourself with a team that understands sport and the demands of it can significantly reduce the time away from playing, building greater fitness, movement quality, strength and power.

It isn’t as much about the time away from sport that makes returning successful but the density of what you do in that time can make you as prepared as possible.

You love playing your sport. We get it. We do too! BUT when the season comes to and end, the off-season can be leveraged as a time to recover and separate yourself from the competition.

We all have the same time in the day. We simply have to have a strategy about how we use it.

The off-season is a time for recovery and reflection as well as reestablishing drive and setting ourselves up for the next season to come.

Let’s to success 🔑
1️⃣ Rest
2️⃣ Address pain
3️⃣ Build quality nutrition habits
4️⃣ Reintroduce training

Having a quality support system can help you in making this offseason the best one yet.

Comment WIN and we will DM you an article on winning the off-season

Big congrats to Avery in passing all her return to sport ACL testing and returning to playing basketball and soccer! Couldn’t be happier for you, appreciate being part of your journey and can’t wait to watch you play!

An incredibly easy way to reduce risk of injury in sports is to simply get more sleep...and it’s FREE.
😴
Often times when speaking to athletes about their daily habits and training, quality or duration of sleep is never something they mention. Having awareness of this necessity and executing it starts with simple planning. If you know you have homework, training or a game, think ahead and set a schedule for yourself.
💤
Having quality sleep helps support your body getting back to homeostasis following the various stressors and energy expenditure throughout the day. Lack of sleep alters your body in producing its natural levels of hormones such as testosterone and growth hormone as well as may increase food intake which may nor may not be beneficial dependent on your goals.
🛏
Start by planning to go to sleep just 15 min earlier every few days. Over time that will progressively add up to 8-9hrs if you’re not there already.
💪
If you’re spending time and effort on the field and/or in the gym on injury prevention, moving better and getting stronger, there is no reason you can’t get to bed a little earlier. Take ownership of your health and performance.

I mean, how else would you bring the new 80-100 DBs into the gym? 😂

12/14/2021

Restoring full knee extension following ACL reconstruction is one of the biggest priorities in the first 10-14 days of physiotherapy.

Full knee extension allows for the ability to achieve target mechanics of walking and running as well as many other daily and sporting tasks.

When someone is finding difficulty with active extension, we often use an assisted exercise (video 1) to help them actively achieve the desired position.

If successful at this, we follow that up with some low load resistance ( video 2) to reinforce the pattern.

The success rate is high but the athlete MUST have passive extension first.

If you find yourself in this scenario, give it a try with your PT or let us know how we can help!

11/25/2021

Happy thanksgiving to our incredible clients, family, and our team! We appreciate you always

The skills of change of direction can be taught in different ways but the principles stay the same.

The athlete is required to be moving in one direction, decelerate and transition themselves to drive in another direction.

The goal is to achieve the postures and positions desired to be quick and efficient.

This shuffle-return to MB toss reinforces absorbing momentum on the back leg, staying low, positioning with a wider base of support, driving from the inside angle of the foot and accelerating in the opposite direction.

It is a quality drill for both rehab and training alike.

11/10/2021

We’re really fortunate to work with great people who work hard and are committed to their goals. Appreciate you Tiff! Glad you’re part of the

Posted • Been doing a lot of work with to get back to playing. Can’t say enough about Mike’s commitment to my process along with his soccer knowledge to understand fully what I’m going through. 500 stars.

10/27/2021

During ACL rehab, learning the change direction, accelerate and decelerate are essential skills to return to sport. Learning appropriate postures and positions we want to achieve are key for improving these skills.

The low box lateral shuffle is a great tool that reinforces a strong low posture, driving through the inside of the loaded foot and learning to accelerate/push as well as decelerate or redirect force we generate.

Master the basics.

10/12/2021

Corinne is about half way through her ACL rehab and doing incredible well! Here is a glimpse into a session with her at GOAL.

The goal in this mid-phase rehab point with Corinne has been to continue the work she has done while at school. Here we are primarily focuses on loading her in quality movement patters and progressing load, in addition to fine tuning some landing mechanics and joint proprioceptive work.

It is no secret that ACL rehab is a process and return to sport needs to be progressed intelligently and when ready. This is why we make sure to always include greater density in our rehab programing, making sure there is ample attention spent on other aspects of preparation (trunk stability, conditioning etc). This allows for greater readiness for more dynamic options down the road.

Training doesn’t start when rehab ends. It’s integrated into the entire process.

10/06/2021

We always say the stage of ACL rehab that is the most important is the current stage you’re in as it sets the foundation for progress to come.

This is no different for the start of the journey, the first day through the first two weeks.

If we accomplish nothing else, the most important aspects are quad strength, knee extension, pain/swelling and introducing walking.

After surgery getting the quad firing again immediately is critical to successful and safely ambulating as well as setting the stage to progress to loaded training in the phases is to come.

Normalizing knee extension, if not some hyperextension, should generally be accomplished in the first 10 days. On the first day, however, we start to introduce the movement with some simple heel elevated work allowing gravity to help.

Swelling/pain control strategies could be compression, ice/stim as well as manual therapy and movement to mobilize our tissue. Reducing these will allow for greater progress in quad strength and range of motion.

All of these components done right will set a strong foundation for great outcomes.

Nail the basics at a world class level.
